Status:

Filming began by April 24, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio, under the working title Stickshift and with Tim Ives as cinematographer. Filming also took place in Lakewood and Toledo, with the Hollywood Casino being used as a location; shooting caused detours for the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority 10L and 14 bus routes. It wrapped up on June 29.

A big disappointment. The problem is the boyfriend, he's a hair-trigger screwup and is totally unlikeable. It doesn't work as comedy and provides Weaving with nothing of substance, the last few scenes switch to drama and Weaving finally has something to work with and she's excellent in those. If the film had been a drama it could have been good.

Is it supposed to be a comedy? It didn't come across as that at all to me.

Tonally it's all over the place & I agree about the boyfriend - he was intensely irritating throughout. True to life though I guess, a lot of people stick with (or keep going back to) the wrong partner.

I liked most of the rest of the quirky characters though, & the plot kept me hooked. Weaving was solid, Garcia was excellent as ever, & there's some nice driving & stuntwork going on.

No idea what Steve Zahn is doing here for only 2 scenes. Perhaps he owed the director a favour, or most of his role is on the cutting room floor? His second scene is especially bizarre, with Weaving saying

[Show spoiler]she was the one who put him in a wheelchair.

Eh? What? When? How?

Randall Park was equally wasted.

The ending felt like a reshoot & didn't really work for me either, & that awful tune shouldn't have carried on for half of the end credits.

Also, did anyone else think

[Show spoiler]Garcia was going to frame her for Georgie's murder, as he probably used her gun (which no doubt had her prints on it)?

So, a bit of a mess, but worth a look for Weaving, Garcia & the car stuff.
