It has nothing to do with being a snob. Ask yourself: Do you consider films like Manhunter, Se7en, and Zodiac horror as well? What makes The Silence of the Lambs move towards the horror genre more so than the usual crime/thrillers?

Always thought of it as a psychological thriller, or even a crime thriller.

It has elements of horror, but I never considered it a "horror film."
