I don't know anyone who saw the 3D version when it came to theaters, and I don't know who is willing to pay 8000 yen retail for this. Wallet rape, that is.

Wonder when Anchor Bay in the US is going to release theirs? Maybe depends on what Toei tells them, and that might be a while.

I wonder if a lot of Japanese imported the UK blu-rays of BR...Has there been a regular blu-ray version of Battle Royale released in Japan before this 3D version?

Not that I know of. And I guess that's the reason behind the sub-par quality of the UK Blu-ray. Toei is probably saving the best source material for their own eventual Blu-ray release.

The 3D version was released in japanese cinemas somewhere last November 2010.
Official site for Battle Royale 3D: http://www.br3d.jp/

Battle Royale 3D trailer:

I felt the CG bullets and stuff flying towards the screen looks pretty crappy.

Japan Battle Royale 3D

The Japanese cult hit "Battle Royale" is apparently being released in a few days time. This blu-ray contains both the 2D version of the film and a newly converted 3D version supervised by the late director's son, a filmmaker in his own right.

Sadly, the disc does not contain English sub. I'm very tempted myself... anyone interested in picking this up can pre-order from YesAsia, so who is in?

Without English subtitles and a steep price tag, I'd wait. Just like someone mentioned earlier, Anchor Bay bought the rights for this in the US. Also, Madman - from Australia - also bought the rights to both BR films and will release them together uncut sometime this year.

The way AB has been operating lately, who knows when they'll get around to releasing it.

I would only second that notion if the quality of the new Japanese Blu-ray isn't a substantial improvement over the UK one.

I couldn't see this in 3D this film is just perfect as it is. I know a lot of people love 3D and i respect that but this film does not need it.

Also not worth it bc added CG in your face effects. Shame bc it has the best transfer

So it's now four years since the last post in this topic. Has there been a good Battle Royale 3D Blu-ray released with English dialog and English subtitles (along with the original?)

Oh yeah, region free too!

Thanks! Still want to see it and have it in my collection.

I didn’t think 3D was still a thing? Maybe in cinemas but the 3D TVs don’t seem to be around as much

No. If you have a Oppo 203 or 205 you could buy the German 3D disc and add English subtitles by USB. That’s what I plan to do.

There's someone selling a 3D disc with English subtitles on ebay for $25... (after shipping)... I wonder if it's a bootleg.
