Default Do you feel relieved when awards season is over?

It always seems like a last minute rush to hurry up and watch all of the nominated films/shorts that I missed last year before the awards shows air. Once they're finally all done, it's kind of a relief.

Not at all, awards season really slaps

On a serious note no, I don't watch any award shows so have no reason to rush to watch anything.

I'm not a fan of how formulaic awards season has become, with studios and distributors putting out and at the same time campaigning for movies during a set period of time during the year.

Obviously there is going to be an outlier or two, but how about we generally go back to just trying to put out great movies for an audience all year long, and then see what's going to get the Academy's attention later?

Not that I really truly care about it. I'll go for whatever movie looks good to me.

Not really, I think this year I’ve realised there’s only so much physically I can watch, so I’ve just opened to the fact there will be a few that pass by. And not to lie, a certain amount of Awards films are really middle of the road. It’s a good chance to break the habit of typical blockbuster and genre fare, but if there’s anything I want to see, I will have likely already planned to see it regardless of awards recognition.

I do, because sometimes I'm sick to death of reading/hearing about the nominated movies.

No, they're just movies and we're just watching them for fun and entertainment. If it was my job to watch everything and churn out 500 plus word reviews on all of the nominees and I had deadlines to meet then yes maybe it would be a relief.

I find it pretty easy to keep up with the major nominees like Best Picture and all of the acting nominated performances. Shorts, documentaries, and foreign language films can be a bit more difficult, but I don't get bent out of shape about it. I have those as lower priority and I see what I can see, but don't get stressed or feel the need to see EVERYTHING.

I watched 100% of everything that got nominated this year. Easy peasy.

I've paid no attention to awards for at least 20 years. I think the 90s were the last time the Oscars seemed relevant.

No one here cares that much. We don't even care about the annual Danish Film Awards (Bodil Awards) either. It's mostly an industry event. They aren't even televised, perhaps with the exception of a live feed to select movie theaters.

If I lived in Hollywood though, I would welcome the end of the endless barrage of promotion that you guys no doubt receive. But Americans probably have developed thicker skin in this regard, being used to commercials everywhere, anytime, for everything that can be sold to a consumer.

Relieved? No. I try to watch as many of the Best Picture nominees as I can before the Oscars, but I don't go out of my way or make a huge deal about it. So, there's nothing, really, to be "relieved" about.

Awards season is just a chance for me to discover potentially good movies, nothing more, nothing less.

"Relieved"? No. I don't feel anything. I don't work in the industry, nobody I know works in the industry... not my monkeys; not my circus.

I didin't even know the awards are on this year until The Slapping showed up on my recommended. I may tune in next year if The Slapping 2 is nominated. I think chris rock was cheated not getting a best actor award for that slap and then handing it out to sir Will slap a lot.

No.

I look forward to the day when the Oscars is a Twitch stream with fewer viewers than some shaggy pothead doing a Super Mario Brothers 3 speedrun.

I don't really care either way. As far as I'm concerned the awards just come and go like a fart in the wind on a yearly basis. Sometimes some entertaining moments pop out though, like the Ricky Gervais speech or the Will Smith slap.

Yes, but I would feel even more relieved when the awards are gone for good, for we do not truly need them in any kind of way at all. “It’s just an award, it doesn’t mean a thing” no matter what no matter how otherwise it may seem
