Okay so you know how Disney practices the Moratorium tactic with their DVD release. Well I was just wondering if they're going to do the same with Blu-ray? Sleeping Beauty is going to be the first platinum classic to hit Blu-ray and within a year or two I know for sure the DVD will go back in the vault, but will the Blu-ray version go back as well?

Most likely, their tactic seems to really work! My girlfriend's sister goes out and buys a new disney DVD "classic" everytime it releases for a "limited time". So my guess is that they will implement the same thing to drive people out to collect those blus!

I imagine the first Platinum release will be relatively rare when it gets put back in the "vault" if they use the same timeframe that they use for their Platinum DVDs. I may pick up a couple extras to "Ebay" in a year or three.

Yes, they will, at least from what I heard. They have coincided the release of their films on Blu with DVD. There is a good chance Disney will keep the Blu out longer until it has a bigger user base, but I expect to see them go into the vault after too long.
I doubt this will affect Pixar titles. |

They will, but I see some modifications for Blu-ray because it's a new format.
Look at it this way: there's really not enough market share for HDM for them to not try to milk the sales a bit longer/faster. If they can sell 300,000 copies of Cars (as an example; I know it's Pixar) on Blu-ray now, when there aren't many HDM owners, I can totally see Disney leaving it on the shelf for a few years, or re-releasing it again in 3 years or so when Blu-ray player sales have gone up exponentially and the opportunity is there for them to cash in. Waiting 7 years just eats into too many sales. |

It's not likely to matter to me for a while anyway because anytime a Disney movies comes out on Blu Ray I go buy it if I want it.
It's weird though when I see trailers saying such and such is being released on DVD for the first time when I have previous DVD editions sitting on the shelf. Those funny mousers. I think this happened when they released Little Mermaid with the new special edition. -Brian |

I agree here. I remember, when I worked at BBV shortly before the advent of DVD, people would ALWAYS line up to buy Disney's titles knowing they were a limited release. As others have siad on this thread, it's a money-making strategy. Why change it just because the format's changed?
