Default HDMI Switches

I'm at a point where I'm using multiple players and consoles that utilize HDMI.

And now I've hit all all the HDMI slots. And I've more systems to connect now. Is there a solid HDMI Switch (that works w/ 4K) out there? I keep reading iffy things on them and don't know the brands for most I see. Seems like some of these affect video and audio quality, which worries me in getting something like this.

I've got my region free player, 4K player, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Switch. AND Now I've a PS5 and Xbox Series X.

How do you guys handle multiple players/consoles?

I got one on Monoprice late last year and love mine. The picture quality is great.

Depending on the number of HDMI inputs you have on your TV, you may have to buy two HDMI Switchers because most switchers have a maximum of 4 outputs. Whichever HDMI Switcher you choose, make sure its 2.0 or 2.1 4K compatible. Here's one from Monoprice that you may like:

That's probably not going to be suitable for the next generation consoles as it stops at 18Gbps, but if you can keep those plugged into you TV along with the UHD player you can plug the other consoles into a switcher, assuming you have 4 HDMI inputs on your display.

Some of your consoles and any Bluray only players only need HDMI 1.4 switching, and you can save money on a 1.4 switch. Like they said in a previous post, you’ll want 2.0 or 2.1 for HDR and newest gaming inputs.

Looks worth giving a shot to me. One thing I looked for when I needed one was a remote that wasn't one of those dumb credit card-size thingies. I eventually found a Lindy one that had an IR extender, so it could be hidden away behind everything and still controlled via remote. I don't use it now, but it worked

It's this one, but I didn't pay anywhere near that much, and I have no idea if Lindy's available in the states.

I'm not really up to date with the next gen consoles, but I'd think you'd want one that handles 4k@120Hz. Amazon seem to have a few, but read through reviews to confirm that it does what it says it does. But if you have 4 HDMI inputs on your telly, you can get away with leaving your consoles alone and plug your older stuff into a switcher.

New HDMI revision adds HDMI Cable Power for longer cables

Quote:
HDMI 2.1a amendment 1 has been announced with support for HDMI Cable Power to let a media player or another source device power active HDMI cables that can go beyond a few meters.

HDMI 2.1's new signaling system FRL (Fixed Rate Link) provides much higher bandwidth but also sets high requirements for HDMI cables.

In the past, you could buy passive HDMI cables extending several meters but 'Ultra High Speed' cables for higher HDMI 2.1 bandwidth are typically limited to a few meters, unless you use active cables meaning that the cable requires a separate power connector.

The new HDMI Cable Power specification is designed to overcome this limitation.

- "HDMI 2.1a, Amendment 1 adds a new feature: HDMI Cable Power. With this feature, active HDMI® Cables can now be powered directly from the HDMI Connector, without attaching a separate power cable. This makes attaching and using active HDMI Cables as easy as using passive, wired HDMI Cables. To use the HDMI Cable Power feature, it is necessary to have an HDMI Cable which supports the HDMI Cable Power feature, and also an HDMI Source device which supports the HDMI Cable Power feature. This combination ensures that the active HDMI Cable can safely draw sufficient current from the HDMI Connector to power its internal circuitry," the HDMI.org website reads.

At this time, we are not aware of any devices that support HDMI Cable Power but look out for the new feature in future devices.

It is also worth noting that HDMI Cable Power compatible cables only have one direction. More information can be found in the FAQ below.

I would get rid of the PS4, since your PS5 is backwards compatible.
