I was beginning to think this would never be released in the UK. Not many region A Fox catalogue titles to go. I can only think of The Robe (1953, the first ever CinemaScope film), it's region A locked & has never been released outside of America. The Sand Pebbles is a very nice transfer, I bought the Dutch version when Amazon were selling it quite cheap.

June looks like a busy month for catalogue releases from Fox.

Maybe not for you, but there are still a fair number on my wants list. Just off the top of my head:-

Working Girl
The Verdict
Black Widow
The King Of Comedy

There's been a good effort from Fox of late, that's for sure, but please let's not delude ourselves!

There remain a staggering number of Fox titles (and Fox distributed MGM titles) available on BD overseas which have yet to receive any kind of BD release in the UK, like the following thirty-or-so titles that have just popped into my head, for example:

The Grapes of Wrath, Zorba The Greek, Twelve O'Clock High, The Poseidon Adventure, Laura, Never Been Kissed, Ever After, Big Trouble in Little China, My Cousin Vinny, X-Files: Fight The Future, Wrong Turn, Office Space, Shallow Hal, Romancing The Stone, Jewel of the Nile, Aquamarine, Ferngully: The Last Rainforest, Runaway Jury, Just My Luck, Home Alone 2, Jingle All The Way, Miracle on 34th Street (1947), Miracle on 34th Street (1994), Sleeping With The Enemy, Taps, The Secret Life of Bees, The Comancheros, Big, Boys Don't Cry, Say Anything.

You appear to have completely missed the point that CinemaScope was making, because none of the titles on your list have had a BD release in Region A.

Sorry for bumping this thread (yet again), but does anyone own the UK BD?
I'm having a hard time finding reliable info on the special features included, and wanted to know how it compares to the US release?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You can add Inn of the Sixth Happiness to that list. It was released in the US the same time as The Agony and the Ecstasy which is being released in the UK but I would have thought Inn of the Sixth Happiness is far more relevant for British viewers (hugely popular when first released). There really is no logic to which titles Fox decide to release in the UK.

Edit..Also, The Diary of Anne Frank, which seems to have been released everywhere except the UK.

Thanks for your reply.

It seems that, sadly, this UK release misses out on a number of special features:
-Isolated Film Score Track with Commentary by Music Producer Nick Redman, Film Music Historian Jon Burlingame, and Film Historian Lem Dobbs (and an interview with Jerry Goldsmith)
-Steve McQueen Remembered
-Bob Wise in Command
-China 1926

The only things missing from the UK disc are the aforementioned isolated score, the trailer and a 4.0 DD soundtrack. No big loss for me

Got the disc today in Amazon's 3 for £17 offer.

On the Region Coding tab, it says the Region Code is B, but on the back cover, it states A/B/C. Is the back cover correct?

It's Fox so ABC is almost as easy as 123

Edit: I don't know for sure

Thanks for the reply. Some Fox titles aren't ABC, so I wanted to ask.

Intrada have reissue the excellent two-CD release of Jerry Goldsmith's superb Oscar-nominated score:

https://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.12614/.f

Complete 2-CD presentation of all-time classic Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack from legendary Robert Wise film with Steve McQueen (in his only Oscar-nominated performance), Richard Attenborough, Candice Bergen. Newly re-mixed, re-mastered from original multi-track stereo elements vaulted at 20th Century Fox, 2-CD set features everything in stereo (including stereo CD premiere of "Repel Boarders") plus several previously unreleased cues, numerous never-before-heard alternates as well as Lionel Newman-recorded source music heard in important brothel scenes where Maily (Marayat Andriane) is introduced. Score itself has truly interesting architecture: Goldsmith creates not one but two distinct main themes, yet draws each from the same first four notes! Go one direction, get his military theme for titular gunboat, go the other direction, get his famous major-key love theme for Jake (McQueen), Shirley (Bergen). In addition, composer creates haunting minor-key secondary theme for Frenchie (Attenborough), Maily. Highlights are many but getting spotlight is premiere release of brief all-important cue where Jake first sees "San Pablo" on docks at night. It is here Goldsmith introduces his four widely-spaced notes on French horn, launching military theme that anchors score. Another highlight is premiere release of aggressive, action-oriented alternate for "Commence Firing". Sequence was re-scored, toned down for final production. Both versions are presented here. Strong liner notes by Julie Kirgo, background details by co-producer Michael Matessino, overall supervision by Nick Redman plus both original artwork campaign, 1966 album cover art round out exciting package. Lionel Newman conducts. A genuine film score classic!
