Well, I really hate the cover art, but I'll be glad to replace my old single-layer DVD copy.

Also it'd be nice to include anything they have on the deleted songs that show up on the soundtrack (and are included in the copy of the screenplay I have) but I'd be shocked if there was anything beyond a trailer.

It looks really good to me. While it doesn't contain the original poster elements it also lacks poorly photoshoped generic looking artwork. (It could be far worse)

I like the original poster, as it conjures up the Last Days of Big-Budget 70's Musicals, and has that classic sparse 70's-poster look. Maybe I'm just used to it.
The cover we get looks too "generic" like a stage-concert performance.

(Also, some buying it for "psychedelia" may be in for a shock, as Milos Forman doesn't exactly go in for summer-of-peace-and-love, but revisionist-deconstructs the hippie movement to show our "rebels" as repellently unsympathetic con-artists...
At least, it's sort of hard to tell; during every musical number, the camera keeps cutting to some nameless dopey establishment extra gaping "Look at those free-spirited people, I wish I was one!... "
Which may be period-accurate, but Joe Friday couldn't do a more negative portrayal of the era than Forman gives us.)

There was an excellent special feature on the Hair: Let The Sun Shine In documentary DVD that was basically a lengthy interview with Milos Forman on the creation and filming of the Hair movie. Doubt it will be on this Blu-Ray, but it would make a great addition!

Either way, I'll be buying this the minute it comes out...

I love 'Hair' the soundtrack and what I saw on Broadway in 2009. But I have to say, I really really don't care for the movie version. How about a reboot?

I didn't see the characters in the movie as repellent at all. Critical of the wealthy and our country's penchant for war, yes (as they should be), but certainly not unsympathetic or repellent. The film is noticeably "tamer" than the stage musical on Broadway, though. But it's still a nice movie. Had it not been for this film, I may not have even seen the Broadway revival of a couple years ago.

Enough of the class warfare B.S. I work my ass off to increase my wealth and most of the wealthy people I know have done the same. I reserve criticism for lazy slackers who won't get off their asses and do something to earn a better living. They prefer to whine and feel entitled just for the act of being born. Fact is, the wealthy pay more than their fair share back to society. Do some research and don't fall for the political rhetoric.

And our penchant for war? You mean to gain our independence from a ruthless King George? A war to preserve the union? A war to save the world from the atrocities of the Nazis? A war to contain the spread of communism in southeast asia? A war to stop the genocide in the Balkans? A war to end the reign of a blood-thirsty dictator in Iraq? We're not perfect, but Americans have shed more blood and treasure to secure liberty for more people in the world than any other nation. When you combine the charitable contributions made by citizens with that of our government (via taxes) no nation can hold a candle to the generosity of the American people.

Gordon Sinclair, The Americans

Even though the characters are rather repellent, "Hair" is still a great film.

I don't mind the cover, but it does suggest this will be as extras-free as the recent DVD repackaging that used identical artwork. A few of us could end up having to get the French version still.

I'd love to see them (provided they were deleted scenes, and not re-integrated into the film - I felt their exclusion was the right choice).

Where did you get the screenplay? Is this the 'fotonovel' that was released, or something different? (I'm a huge Forman fan and wasn't aware of its existence). Thanks.

Fantastic news!! I love this film.
The DVD picture quality was awful and, to make matters worse, it was letterbox. Not a great thing for a widescreen TV.

Excellent. Now I don't have to think about how I passed up buying the dvd for $5.00 a few months ago.

I always felt that that film came out about a decade too late. "Hair" (the play) was so much of it's time that by the time the film version it seemed really dated.

Interesting film though. Maybe it would play better for me now.

I actually rather like the psychedelic-tiedie-esque cover graphics. I think it captures some of the spirit of the film. It's better than the one on the previous DVD or the route taken so many times of just slapping a collage of faces on the cover.

Hopefully, MGM does include some meaningful, quality extras beyond the trailer. I really love this film and have wanted it in my collection for what seems an eternity. Nice to finally have it on preorder (and a nice price). I was actually hoping this film would make its way to the Criterion Collection, since they've started releasing some MGM-owned films on Blu over the past year.

I found this copy of Hair in a Dollar General today for $5. I had always wanted to pick it up and when I saw it...I grabbed it quickly. Haven't seen this since I was MUCH younger and it's actually a cool nostalgic "trip" down memory lane. The picture quality isn't the very best, but considering the times it was made....I don't think it NEEDS to be. The dirt and specks during the opening credits were noticeable and actually kind of reminded me of sitting in an old movie house back in the day.....so I welcomed it.

It was a fun trip worth my $5.
