In the 1970s, Wim Wenders was among the first true international breakthrough artists of the revolutionary New German Cinema, a filmmaker whose fascination with the physical landscapes and emotional contours of the open road proved to be universal. In the middle of that decade, Wenders embarked on a three-film journey that took him from the wide roads of Germany to the endless highways of the United States and back again. Starring Rüdiger Vogler as the director’s alter ego, Alice in the Cities, Wrong Move, and Kings of the Road are dramas of emotional transformation that follow their characters’ searches for themselves, all rendered with uncommon soulfulness and visual poetry.

Really excited about getting to revisit these films in HD. A long wait for sure, but definitely will be worth it.

Big Wim Wenders fan ever since the '90's, when I took a class called New German Cinema in college.

I've never seen any of these three films, so it will be nice to finally get ahold of these.

Would also like to see his classic sci-fi/road trip film Until the End of the World on Region 1 Blu.

I've been dying to see Kings Of The Road for years now. I really need to see more Wenders' films in general anyway. I've only seen Wings Of Desire and Paris, Texas, and both are two of my all time favorite films.

According to wiki, Until the End ... will be released by Criterion.

Until the End...is the only Wenders movie I have seen. Will definitely be buying the Criterion release.
What is this trilogy about? Looks interesting

If you want to explore Wim Wenders, then you should check out Wings of Desire, which is currently available from Criterion.

There is also it's sequel, Faraway, So Close, which needs a BD release.

I would also recommend Paris-Texas, which is the only Wenders movie I've seen except for Until the End of the world (from which I don't remember anything. It was in my teens more than 20 years ago)

I'm starting to put together a tentative list of blind buy possibilities for the Barnes and Noble July sale and I'm considering putting this set on it.

I'm intrigued by the idea of three great road movies and a lot of folks here seem to really love them some Wim Wenders.

It's either this or The American Friend, but probably not both.

That being said, the only WW film I've seen is Paris, Texas and I didn't care for it much. Not exactly sure why that is, but I just didn't like it.

Anyone have any strong thoughts on the matter?

...you can punch me in the face if you want to.

Paris, Texas, Wings of Desire, and The American Friend are three of the best films I have ever seen so I am ecstatic about getting this release.

Paris, Texas left me bored but I really love Wings of Desire and Pina. I'm interested in The Road Trilogy, but I'm a bit leery. I may not be the best person to respond, Ray.

That's interesting.

Any sense of why you loved Wings but not Paris?

The subject matter mostly. I just felt more invested in Damiel and his understanding of humans, falling in love, the interiority of it all. And, while Peter Falk makes me nauseous, I liked the behind the scenes filmmaking subplot. I don't know. I guess I was just caught up more so with that than following a drifter trying to connect with his family. I do admit, though, that I need to watch Paris, Texas again. It's been a few years since I saw it.

^^^ This

I've seen all of the above and loved them. The road trilogy will be a blind buy for me.

I respect Jim Jarmusch for his contribution to the world of independent filmmaking, but if I never see Stranger Than Paradise again, I'll be fine with that.

Then don't watch Permanent Vacation

I made the mistake of watching this Jarmusch film today. I get it, first feature and all but not much to like about it. The only two Jarmusch films I enjoy are Mystery Train and Broken Flowers.

I like both films, but in your case I'd skip it.
