I have been following the battle between HDDVD and Blu-Ray Disks and as an avid technology junkie it's clear to me that Blu-Ray is the way to go.
However most of the current BD Disks available are hardly an incentive to take the plunge and invest in a Blu-Ray player and 1080p screen! I need some serious stuff like a release (re-release!) of the Star Wars film set, Matrix trilogy or Lord of the Rings trilogy to set pulses racing! Most of the stuff released in Blu-Ray disks if I have seen it I wouldn't bother watching again regardless of HD format! I am still waiting to see the value and the quality (not image but film quality!) Tiamat-M |

It's a chicken or eggs thing... the producers of big movies like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings are waiting for Blu to become mainstream. Blu going mainstream is somewhat dependent on the releases of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings... It's going to get there eventually. I jumped onto Blu-ray early so that I can enjoy Spiderman and Die Hard and other movies on Blu while waiting for Star Wars to come out.

I find it very hard to believe there's not one movie on Blu-ray that you don't want to buy. (maybe if you said this back in February 2007) I mean I don't have HD-DVD but I could easily name 20 titles that I wouldn't mine buying. |

Besides, if people are waiting for those titles before adopting Blu-ray, those titles will never come. The studios are holding off on those titles so that they can sell millions of copies upon release instead of just the 30,000 they might sell at this point in time. Buying into Blu-ray will expediate the process whereby studios will start to say, "Now we are talking! This is starting to look more profitable for our most anticipated titles." People don't adopt, studios won't release them. It's that simple. |

Yeah, if added PQ or Audio from already released BD's does not interest you save your money. Not everyone cares about enjoying the cinema experience at home. If standard DVD works.. keep on keeping on!

Film content and beauty, rather than film format, is a much more compelling argument! I would willingly upgrade my favourite films (currently about 500 DVD titles - and growing! that I consider worth watching about every 3 months) when they become available in BD format. However none of those titles are currently available. That is not entirely true, there are a few available, but as far as I'm concerned it hasn't reached tipping point yet! Tiamat_m |

There are hundreds of blu rays available and if not one of those appeal to you enough to purchase them in HD then who's fault is that? I think your standards may be set too high and your expecting WAY to much. If you think not enough blockbuster films have been released, and because of that there is no reason in investing in a 1080P screen at this time, you are absolutly crazy! Here ill fix one of your sentences so it represents YOUR opinion and not speak in the voice of everybody else ( since I believe most of us do not agree with your POV)
Your Sentence However most of the current BD Disks available are hardly an incentive to take the plunge and invest in a Blu-Ray player and 1080p screen! Your Sentence Revised to only show your opinion However most of the current BD Disks available are hardly an incentive for ME to take the plunge and for ME to invest in a Blu-Ray player and a 1080P screen! The point is Blu Ray was not invented for a handfull of movies. It was made to make hundreds (and soon thousands) of movies available in HD. Screens and players are going for resonable prices compared to what they were, and investing now (even if super mega blockbusters like LOTR are not yet available) is not a bad investment. Ok and now why your view is not only incorrect, your view is actually the bad investment. How is that...... Well your view says it is only worth buying a 1080P screen and a blu ray player for films like The Matrix Trilogy, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars, and what other few movies you may have left out. So your saying it is a smart investment to buy a 1080P screen a Blu Ray player, only for a handfull of movies. I really hope you love re-watching these films everyday, or else it dosnt seem like a very good investment does it? The smart investment would be to buy a 1080P screen and a Blu Ray player ONLY if you planned to make full use of it! |

I'm only around 40 owned and still some I want to pick up that have alreeayd been released, so there is definitely some good stuff already on Blu. I personally wouldn't say over 100 must own titles on Blu yet, but I'd say there's at least 50 must own (for me) already out. |
