Hey there,
So I have a nice set up for a 23yr old at least and have like 7 remotes. I like having them because no one else can use my system however I love the look of the Harmony 1000 remote. Me personally I am ok with alot remotes but may be willing to give this a try. Is there anyone out there like me and enjoys alot remotes or would the harmony be nice to just show off to the friends like oh yea.... GTsmokeya Thanks in advance Here is a link for it if you do not know what it is. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Logit...oductDetail.do |

i have one but i got if of ebay new for $250. if you do the search it is a seller that is in the upper highlighted area and they are also a power seller with a 100% feedback. i like it a lot for the wow factor but it gets irritating sometimes because it doesnt sense my finger input and i need to push the screen a few times to get the option i want to work. i also have the 360 harmoney remote for my bedroom and the 2 do the exact same job the only difference is style. if you have a ps3 you can get the bluwave ir remote and program the harmony.(sorry power on/off doesnt work)

Yea I can get it for 250 as well new, and I think I may get it just for the pimp factor. I like the idea of me knowing every in and out and controlling it that way.

The 890 is smaller and easier to handle. the 1000 is great for end table or, coffee table tops.
1000 is just too large for me. |

My Harmony 1000 arrives tomorrow. I have been using a Sony universal remote (also a tablet style touchscreen) for years, and it was an outstanding remote...just simply time for an upgrade. If you are looking for a square tablet style touchscreen similar to the H1000 and don't want to pay over $150, the Sonys come highly recommended.
I am one of the very few people around that hated the 880 -- mostly because of my touchscreen bias -- although I'll admit the new Harmony One does look quite impressive. Looks like they addressed virtually everything I despised about the 880, like the buttons being so small and close together they are barely usable. I might have opted for the One, but I'm just impatient. ![]() I'll let you know my impressions once it's delivered and I work out the kinks. Last edited by cking2729; 01-31-2008 at 03:25 AM. |

Isn't the Pronto really pricey? I have an accomidation for logitech so thats why I am considering them, plus they have great support, I have never been thrilled with philips electronics.

I was considering the Philips RC9800i, which is a few years old and comparably priced to the H1000. However, you don't have many more customization features than the H1000, and I think the Logitech set up and management features are far superior.
On that note, the FedEx man literally just dropped off my H1000. I'll post you my take tonight, having gone through set up and toyed with it for a few hours. I do love the box though. They definitely package their products very well, kinda like Apple. Last edited by cking2729; 01-31-2008 at 07:02 PM. |

Depends on the model, but yes, they are a little more money. They are much more configurable though. You can add your own graphic and basically customize the entire touch screen area. Having this level of customization does make it a little more involved in setup though. Check out remotecentral.com for lots of info on remotes. |

Anyway, I got my Harmony 1000 today and here's my take, as promised. The software has significantly improved since I tried it out on the 880 4-5 years ago. I am using Mac OS 10.5 and things work very smooth. The actual remote design is super slick and looks better than it does in pictures. The charger base actually doubles as a stand for coffee table show off. It also feels nice and light in your hand, much better than my old Sony tablet. The color touchscreen isn't uber sharp, but it is fine for the 3.5" screen. The touch screen is accurate and has optional clicking for some form of feedback. The set up was seamless and configured perfectly to my Sammy TV, Moto DVR Set Top, and Onkyo 605. You basically type in your product model and voila. Setting up "activities" took some troubleshooting since it took a while to get my TV's inputs correct. Upon entering my products, all their most standard functions are stylishly available upon touch screen. If that's not enough, there are roughly 3 pages you can customize with remote functions of your choice. And if entering things online doesn't do it for you, you can learn individual functions directly from your remotes. The navigation is slick, also, and the interface/help options are very wife/girlfriend friendly. I can't comment on the battery life yet since I've only had it a few hours, but it looks like it charges via both the USB and the cradle dock. The only thing I haven't been able to figure out is the proper size for channel icons. I downloaded a lot of channel icons for customization, but can't quite find the ideal size yet. The software says 27x23, but it looks like crap. In time, though. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer. I'll definitely be playing around with this for the next few days. This is very true....I bought the 1000 the day it came out and it was alright, I ended up taking mine back because the wife hated using it. I went back to my 880 and life is good again. ![]() Also if I remember correctly the thing couldnt hold a charge worth a crap, I would leave it off the cradle overnight and by morning without using it was dead on the spot. Something to think about. |

^^ Really? I would have thought it would support Z-wave. The logitech website leaves much to be desired in my opinion. Plus I tried to call there customer support and got the run around when I got to a person I forgot my damn question. I will look deeper into the Z-wave its a cool feature.

The 1000 is very nice but the only problem is that if some reason your screen does get damaged you can't use the remote. Thats why I bought the Monster AVL 300. You can get other Harmony's or any other brand and the good thing is that if your screen does get damaged you can still use the remote. Again this is just one man's opinion.
