for you computer to reconize the ps3 you have to have windows media player 11 (im not sure if you need vista or not) then you go to library-media sharing-and then you have to allow the ps3 (it will be labled as unknown device). Thats all i know how to do, im used to using i tunes and i cant transfer my songs from there to wmp, there were sample songs on the wmv and the ps3 cant even read those

Nope. Works fine with XP in WMP 11.

I use TVersity to share my audio/video. Check it out: http://www.tversity.com/home

If you don't want to try that software, some suggestions are:
1. If you have a firewall installed on your PC, make sure to allow the connection to go through.
2. Someone already mentioned adding your PS3 to WMP 11 allowed list.
3. Do you have WMP 11 configured to access your audio/video files?

Just some suggestions.

My guess is you need to hit triangle and then click on more information. If you just hit x it'll say there's nothing there, usually if you hit triangle it brings everything up. Give that a shot.

In what folders do you have your pictures, music, and videos stored on your PC? Odd that you can see the computer but no files. Also, are you connected via wireless or wired?

use Nero Mediaserver... if you have Nero 7, it should be there.
If you dont have Nero 7, then like... go get it. theres a free trial. ill go grab the link for you...

Its incredibly easy to use. you can share individual folders, or just share EVERY media file on your pc.

its quite amazing actually. works flawlessly - i got it up and running within seconds. no problems at all...

I love it!

EDIT: http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-...-Premium.shtml

There ya go. Try it out if youd like.

It's a bit of a pain to setup WMP11, but works great once set up. I'm in the middle of writing a longer guide, but here's the short version.

Step 1: Enable WMP sharing. Within WMP, Tools menu, click on Options. Within the Library tab, click on Configure Sharing. Put a checkmark in the "Share My Media" checkbox. Click OK. Depending on your network settings you may be prompted with some additional dialogs at this point to "Make Network Private", etc. Basically just choose Yes or OK to anything you're asked at this point (assuming you're on your own home network).

Step 2: Add media. Within WMP, Tools menu, click on Options. Within the Library tab, click on Monitor Folders. Click on the Advanced Options button. Add the folders that contain the media you want to share with the PS3. Subfolders of any folder you add will also be searched for media to share. Once done, click OK. WMP will automatically search those folders and add media to share.

Step 3: Allow the PS3 to connect. Go to your PS3 and turn it on. If it doesn't automatically find the WMP server then tell it to search for Media Servers. Go back to the WMP computer. Again, within WMP, Tools menu, click on Options. Within the Library tab, click on Configure Sharing. Below the "Share my media" checkbox you selected earlier, you see pics of the various devices allowed access to you library. There should now be an "Unknown Device." This is the PS3. Select "Unknown Device" and choose to "Allow" it. Click OK and you should be good to go.

Now when you go back to your PS3, you should be able to see your WMP machine and all the files you chose to share. Hope that helps.

An issue I find is that I can often see the folders but no files inside unless I slect the folder, hit the Triangle button, then choose to view all (or something similar). Then all the files in that folder magically appear.

What I hate though is that the PS3 tries to read every file in the directory, determine it's type and display a thumbnail from it. This process takes time (tens of minutes - maybe hours) and often means that no files will play if your directory is particularly large - which some of mine are.

Hmm... Did all of this and on both my PS3 and my 360 it can see the computer but can't see any files. The 360 can see my sample pictures from the my documents/my pictures folder but nothing else... my PS3 sees nothing. I have a ton of MP3's and Videos i've set it up to share and configured it to allow access to "All Ratings" instead of the default "Only 2 stars or better".

I have a custom firewall that doesn't block any local network access... in fact, none of the local traffic goes through it at all. My windows firewall is disabled.

Phane --

What happens if you try to just share a few files? Can you access them then?

Also, I'm assuming you made sure to approve the "Unknown Device" (The PS3) to have access within WMP.

Wireless works. My PC is wired and the PS3 is wireless.
