Phantom Film will release Trey Edward Shults' Waves (2019) in Japan on December 18th, 2020 as a Deluxe Edition UHD/BD combo pack with a 2021 calendar.

According to the release announcement, the UHD disc will also contain the film's Dolby Atmos audio, but the 1080p disc will have some kind of 5.1 audio (it claims Dolby Digital, but I would guess lossless). If any type of HDR will be offered, it has not been mentioned. The UHD disc will only contain the feature film, while the Blu-ray has the feature plus 30 minutes of extras:

At least for now, this is the only Blu-ray edition of the film in Japan, there is no 1080p-only option or priced-down version I can find, only the standalone DVD.

I wonder if this will get 4K anywhere else.

These sets are obscene (as far as pricing goes). $144 plus tax for two discs. Yes, I paid almost this much for DAWN OF THE DEAD, but that was 7 discs, three of which were 4K. I paid $20 for the BD of Waves. That's $124 additional for a 4K disc.

Amazon has been restricting int'l preorders for awhile now. I'm sure it'll open up once it's actually released.

try entering a japanese postcode and it might work.

Yeah, Japanese addresses work fine. You just can't get it shipped outside the country via Amazon, at least not yet. It's standard for pre-orders. Even if this sticks around for awhile, CDJapan has it, and is still shipping internationally.

You're welcome. Another advantage to not using a Japanese address: No 10% VAT added.

Still super pricey but there is a 1212¥ coupon right now, which helps.

You just have to enter a japanese postal code and set the order, afterwards you can change it to whatever address you'd like.

I haven't seen the movie but I bought it blind.
Well.. good news first, it does have HDR!
Only watched first 10minutes upto the first beach scene.
Atmos bass is thunderous and everything looks deeper compared to regular bluray. I must say though hd bluray still looked great but UHD version is noticeably better in every way
I will watch the entire movie tonight.
There is only English audio
Atmos on UHD and DTS master audio on HD bluray.
Subtitle is sadly only in Japanese which starts automatically but can be turned off via menu.
Overall nice packaging although pricey.
