Raiders of the Lost Ark I don't think will ever be topped in the genre.

Though I gotta commend Spielberg for The Adventures of Tintin. That was a great adventure movie that captured the spirit of the old Indiana Jones movies better than Crystal Skull by a wide margin. Too bad it flew under the radar in the States, it's a great film for the whole family.

Gunga Din with Cary Grant is a whole lot of fun as well, though I don't think it's as good as it should be.

This one might seem crazy, but I'd put Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome on the list too. It strayed away from the action roots of the first two a bit for a Spielbergian adventure film, and while it threw me off at first, I think like it more and more with each viewing.

Conan the Barbarian with Arnold is always a classic.

It's part adventure story, part character study, so keep that in mind while viewing it.

Raiders is still the textbook example of how to do an action adventure film. Nothing has come close, IMO. I remember liking Time Bandits as a kid but I don’t know if that one holds up now. Wizard of Oz?

The Indiana Jones series, obviously. Alongside those, I'd add Mask of Zorro, The Rocketeer, The Shadow, The Phantom, Adventures of Robin Hood, and King Kong (1933 & 2005).

Sahara i always think is hugely underrated.

The recent Uncharted was actually a lot of fun and certainly delivered an enjoyable adventure.
