Netflix's "Castlevania" (Series Premiere July 7)

Netflix is developing a “Castlevania” animated TV series to be released later this year. The series has a “Game of Thrones vibe to it”.

Shankar says it will break the streak of bad video game adaptations: “I’m personally guaranteeing that this is going to be the best f–king video game adaptation ever made to date. I’ve seen it, and it’s f–king amazing.” The new show is reportedly very violent, akin to the likes of “Akira,” HBO’s “Spawn” and “Young Justice”.

The first season of “Castlevania” hits the streaming service later this year. The second in 2018.

I think that there was an previous post about this before can't find it off hand though. I'm looking forward to this if it can be anything like Spawn from HBO i'm all for it.

Loved the game. This has one distinct advantage over Game of Thrones.... the writers wont have writers block. Not the writers but the main writer, who is writing the meat and potatoes of the story.

If I'm not mistaken Castlevania is complete?

Castlevania... Frankenstein made me want to smash my NES.

From the little I've read, this show is based on the third NES game, which had Trevor Belmont as the main hero. This would require it taking place around the late 15th century I think, since he was born in 1456. The most famous member of the family to challenge the Count was Trevor's grandson Simon, who survived two battles with the vampire.

i just hope the animated is top tier, so many of them are pretty crap.

and the fact this is the "first" adult animated series for netflix...it better be top tier along with pristine voice acting.

Along with the animation, I hope the illustration style of the characters isn't over the top, but similar to what we'd expect for a Castlevania cutscene. Maybe something like Vampire Hunter D would work.

I loved Kingsglaive but something like Castlevania would be better suited to an animation style like Vampire Hunter D (which Zivouhr already posted).

Just the one I never beat. Rub it in my face, Netflix! It was just too difficult for me toward the end.

Of the original three, the only one I ever beat was Simon's Quest...and even then, I never got the best ending.

Simon's Quest is the only game of the series I ever played (loved it!). Have always wanted to see a movie based on the games but I'll be curious to check this series out.
