Default Netflix's "Baby Reindeer" (Season 1)

Even though it's based on the experiences of a comedian there aren't many laughs in this story of a man being stalked by an obsessive woman. Getting rave reviews in the press but I found it quite infuriating. The first three episodes are excellent but the overlong episode 4 throws it off the rails and it never fully recovers. The series would have been better without that overlong wallow in misery and degradation and more than a little narcissism, especially as the events are far better covered in a later episode's big scene and would have more impact if the TV audience didn't know what was coming.

Jessica Gunning is phenomenal, switching from pathetically vulnerable to violently dangerous in an instant. She deserves every award that's going.

I was going to make a thread for this but then I found yours. Why did you post this in the UK forum instead of the main TV area?

Anyway, great series and you're very wrong about the 4th episode, that was the meat of the show. It was painful to watch.

I, too, found it brutal… to sit through. No redeeming characters. And based on the real lives of these people?? Just a dumpster fire of humanity.

I think it's because where the thread was started at. Not enough eyes.

Kind of the point. Most people don't have rosey lives free of trauma and scars. I don't think Richard was beyond redemption, just another ****ed up soul doing the best he can with what happened to him. That part where he talked to his parents about what was going on was so raw and sad.

I had been meaning to watch this since it premiered but just hadn't gotten around to it. With so many articles coming out about Netflix getting sued for the show, I just couldn't let another day go by without watching.

Overall, this was a pretty compelling show, and good black comedy. Just how much of it is fictionalized is apparently going to be up to the courts to decide.

Maybe it's kind of a good thing overall that Richard Gadd plays himself, even though he's now 10 years older than when all of this took place, which means he's not quite convincing as a twenty-something. I assume most people were not bothered terribly by this.

It now seems possible that somewhere down the line, there will be a legal drama made about the real-life lawsuit that followed. That would be quite ironic.
