Default How much have you spent on your Blu-ray collection?

You've laid out a lot of cash and probably made some financial trade-offs or sacrifices to build your collection. Has it been worth it? How much have you spent and would you rather have the cash now?

I have spent over 10k on my collection. I just got done selling about 30 Steelbook on eBay for a few hundred in profit so that should tell you how I feel about the money I have spent. Also I have not bought a bd since im3 Steelbook. I don't see any that I would want coming out or down in price anytime soon. I used to buy every single new release for $20 but I have seen too many drop down to $10 just a few months later. I refuse to drop more than another 2 grand in total over the next 5 years or so to get a few more titles that I want, and that's nothing seeing how I accrued almost 800 bd's in less than 2 years! These days I'm studying a lot and playing gta5 online in my free time. Oh yeah and play with my wife too

I am 100% happy with my collection and with the overall price of building my collection.

I've spent roughly 4K so far.

Option two is more in line with my thoughts on my collection. I enjoy my collection and it is, for the most part, money well spent.

I started collecting hd movies (blu-ray and hd dvd) in March '07. I've owned approximately 1200 titles and I've most likey spent over 20k on them since then.

I've only had a few slight regrets....Some Criterion blind buys that didn't pan out and some unwatched movies that are currently selling for less than I paid at the time I bought them, which doesn't really bother me as I've always had the opinion that money was made to be spent.

I've never made anything back on my collection as I've always gifted my double dips to family and friends.

As much as I enjoy my collection, I'd rather have a down payment towards a house and a forth as many discs. That includes blu rays, DVDs, and video games though.

There's only about 10 blu-rays in my collection I would like to get rid of. Some cheap titles I blind bought and okay movies that weren't as good on repeat viewings. I don't regret the other 400 blu-rays in my collection though.

I'm totally happy with my collection, but don't feel like estimating its value. Too much for a college student, I'll say, but I'm lucky enough to have the means.

I used to have almost 1000 blu rays so you can just do the math from 3 years ago when they were virtually 20 bucks a piece. However, I'm now just over 100 blu rays and have gotten good deals on most of them so my current collection would be maybe 3,000 dollars or so, maybe a little more or less.

How did you have the strength to get rid of so many?! I've looked at my collection of 500 or so and often thought to myself, "why do I have all of these?" and tried to trim the collection. I usually just get frustrated doing so and go order another blu to get that 'shopping high'!

Not sure what I've spent in total but I enjoy watching films. Don't drink or smoke and I'm at a point in my life where going out has become less of an activity that staying home with the wife and kids. Do not have any high dollar hobbies (cars, boating, hunting, etc) so in the end I'm happy with these purchases.

LMAO! It's been difficult, and I miss a couple, but I've forced myself to trim the fat a couple of times.

There should be another choice. I'm totally happy, money well spent, but I really have spent more than I should have.

That's me.

Happy till now. Although when I started, I though I will buy max 25-30. I was more keen on collecting SACD/DVD-A then. But then when it became saturated, I had start something.

I thought it would be okay because selling them afforded me and the wife to go to a 12 day trip to boston and I wanted to switch to digital. So I built up a collection of over 200 movies on VUDU, got mad when my internet crashed and couldn't watch any movies so stopped that and now am back to Blu Rays! It sucks looking at all I got rid of but my collection now is something I'm very proud of.

Yes. Choice D should be "Both A and B" and then choice E should be "All of the Above!"

I'd go with either D or E, but overall it's still great to be able to have so many titles in such high quality at a truly tiny fraction of both the cost and storage space of getting them on 16mm or 35mm film, not to mention the convenience of viewing.

Blu-ray discs nowadays are also a lot cheaper than dvd's were at the time.

This month I've been upgrading my LOTR: EE on blu-ray.
Back in the day the 4-disc EE-dvd's retailed for 50 EUR/each (in my native Belgium). Now I'm ordering the EE-blu-ray's from the UK for less than 10 £/each. (s/h included)

With prices so low how could I not vote for option A.

I try not to think about how much I have spent, with the double, triple, and even quadruple dips on some movies, but I do love watching 'em!!
