My wife has watched the uncensored original a couple of times, and really enjoyed it. She loves violence when it isn't sugar-coated, or when it's made to be "cool".

She also really enjoyed True Lies, seeing the "controversial" stuff with Jamie Lee Curtis as bringing out an untapped inner strength and confidence, mirroring her take on I Spit on your Grave. She's no feminist - she'd take a knife to my knackers in the bath for even hinting that - and certainly no doormat, but loves a film which differs from the norm and isn't afraid to get its hands dirty.

Sounds like our spouses would get along famously.

We've watched loads of controversial films together - I Spit, Salo, Cannibal Holocaust, A Serbian Film, etc. She's even been present (multiple times) when I've watched Caligula.

I’d imagine that even if the original film is passed uncut, the BBFC would never let the uncut version of ‘I Spit on Your Grave 2’ through.

The 1970s setting, and arguably dated appearance, of the original is possibly enough to offset the sexual violence of the film, but no such mitigation applies to the 2013 sequel.

(For the record, I don’t think the original is in any way dated, and if anything appears even more horrific now than it did, but the BBFC have used this reasoning to allow other films though uncut that they have previously interfered with).

Hope they give the first film and documentary a separate release, don’t need the remake/sequels.

The original film is getting a standalone release with the documentary on Disc 2.

Between this thread, the duplicate, the thread for the previous release, and the one in the US sub-forum, I feel like I'm going a bit cross-eyed. I thought having a dedicated thread for the upcoming UK set might tidy things up a bit, but evidently I was wrong.

I'll be up for this mostly for the Deja Vu sequel and doc.
I currently have the Umbrella Australian release of the original.

I have a really hard time believing that these films will be passed uncut now, when just last year, the BBFC became more restrictive about sexual violence in films, especially with "realistic" scenarios.

Yeah, it seems unlikely. There's nothing on the bbfc webpage to suggest that this is happening. I'm sure at least one of the remake/ sequels was cut or pre-cut too.

The description for the standalone release of the first film doesn't mention anything about it being uncut, so we only have the complete collection description to go on.

Quote:
In 1978, one film changed the face of cinema forever. Long established as one of the most hated, debated and divisive movies of all time, I Spit On Your Grave has been condemned by some as 'vile and depraved', whilst others hail it as a 'misunderstood masterpiece of cinema' and 'the ultimate feminist movie'.

Now the original X-rated cult classic is back, newly released on double disc special edition, and packed with fresh and exclusive bonus material. Re-experience the phenomenon that shocked and divided the world and influenced an entire genre and generation of film-makers, with Camille Keaton's portrayal of young writer Jennifer Hills, her horrific plans for revenge, and some of the most gruesomely, unforgettable scenes ever captured to film.

The linked BBFC changes to ratings based on sexual violence make mention of films with lower ratings being moved to higher ones, and not to films with the most restrictive 18 rating being cut for content, so the implied effect on this SPIT box is a bit ambiguous to me.

You could always ask BBFC on their social media?

True, the BBC article was the most succinct one I could find as the notice I believe I read last year on the BBFC site seems to have disappeared.

But the point remains that in recent months, the BBFC seem to have been getting stricter about sexual violence, not more lenient, so therefore it would seem highly unlikely that 2020 is the year that all these films sail through the BBFC completely uncut with in some cases minutes of cut footage, much of it cut very recently (within the last ten years) reinstated.

I also notice that Kaleidoscope has already begun mentioning extras and "special edition" banners all over the packaging, in what I would say is a likely attempt to distract buyers from the cut status of the films.

If you are looking for uncut versions, I would be very wary of these releases until the new BBFC submissions surface.

Is the 2019 sequell Deja Vu cut in the UK?
I can't find any info on this one in the BBFC site.

IIRC Deja Vu was available to buy and rent digitally through iTunes, Amazon etc last year. It would not have needed to have been rated by the BBFC, so would have been uncut. It has now been removed from digital platforms. This is the first physical media release of the film, so the BBFC could very well impose cuts if they chose to do so. It all depends on how strong the sexual violence is in that film though.

To buy the import of Deja Vu cost over £30 on ebay, so if it's uncut in this boxset then I'd probably buy it and for the doc.
