Default The last V12 BMW

The 2020 to 2022 BMW M760Li (M760i in North American market) is the final BMW vehicle to use their V12 engine, and the only V12 model ever to have four wheel drive. The North America-only V8 version of the next 7 Series will be called "760i" instead of "750i" and the highest model, called "M760e," will use their 6 cylinder engine combined with electric motors and a user-rechargeable battery. BMW will continue to produce V12 engines for Rolls-Royce vehicles for the time being.

I grieve for the dying 12-cylinder engine. Things looked slightly up for the full-size luxury sedan segment when the current A8 was allegedly going to get the W-12 one final time, but that appears to have been canceled. Guess that leaves the S680 as the final option unless you go to Bentley or Rolls-Royce.

Used AMG S 65s are CRAZILY cheap. Surprised nobody goes for them.

As a lifelong enthusiast of Mercedes, especially V-12 Mercedes, I admit there's a reason.

The price tag of keeping them serviced is huge, and generally speaking a number of 2000s era Mercedes don't have great reputations for dependability either.

German cars in general become endless money pits as the age. The Germans make great engines and transmissions. It's that they over computerize their cars (not to mention over plasticing them).

The reason they do this is to allow for better handling and driving dynamics, as well as far more features, than the competition.
