Dolby atmos vs Dolby True Hd

Is one better than the other, or are they the same. Should your reciever display dolby atmos or dolby true hd 🤔

Dolby Atmos has a much fuller and boisterous sound than True HD, but all Dolby Atmos remixes doesn't sound equivalent. It depends on the particular soundtrack.

All Atmos mixes have a TrueHD core, which is played if your equipment doesn't support Atmos. If it does, then it should show Atmos on the receiver.

In fact aren’t they stacked by 3 codecs on top of the other now, in both Atmos and DTS X? We’ve got the lossy legacy core, lossless extension on top of that, and yet another layer for the latest object-based iteration. It’s like the bun, the icing and the cherry on top.

As you say though, this method allows backwards compatibility.

The OP was asking which sounds better, not if Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD were compatible on a receiver. Sonically, there is a difference.

Actually it's not totally specific what was being asked as we don't know the whys and hows, and Atmos isn't going to sound better than TrueHD on a receiver that doesn't do Atmos. If the receiver does support Atmos but isn't showing Atmos on the display, something else is going on.

But he was also asking if the receiver should display "Dolby Atmos" which you failed to answer.
Yes it should, unless there is something wrong in his setup.
