(Jean Rollin, 1980)
Release date: 21 August 2023
Limited Edition 4K UHD (World premiere)

One of Jean Rollin’s least-seen and most underrated works, The Night of the Hunted (La Nuit des traquées) finds the director moving away from his trademark tales of vampirism to explore a nightmarish, dystopian world.

In the dead of night, Elisabeth is rescued from unknown pursuers by Robert and taken to safety. But, after she is kidnapped and taken to an austere clinic whose distressed and abused patients are suffering from progressive memory loss, Robert sets out to find her and discover what is taking place in the clinic.

Shot at night on a shoestring budget, with a cast mostly drawn from France’s adult-film industry, The Night of the Hunted stars Rollin regulars Brigitte Lahaie (Fascination) and Natalie Perrey (Lips of Blood), and offers a stark and melancholic take on contemporary society.

Word!

Rollin's Cronenberg-ian mind-trip with the delectable Ms. Lahaie.

Love it!

Oh HELLS yes!!! Indicator really is making Rollin fans' 4k uhd-collecting dreams become a reality. Night of the Hunted fully restored, starting with a fresh 4k scan of the OCN??!!! They've got the ocn! Fan-flippin-tastic!!! Looks to be the same story with The Rape of the Vampire as well. Day 1 for both titles!!!!

I might get this one, as it's different than those vampire ones. I'm not buying anything w/ that certain word in its title... even if it's a vampire.

Fwiw, the numbering scheme leads me to believe two of the pseudonymous works may be coming:

Schoolgirl Hitchhikers
Fly Me The French Way

Most likely I guess? Phantasmes would be nice but that is X rated unlike these two.

Night of the Hunted is 411. It isn't Zombie Lake because Zombie Lake came out after Night of the Hunted. Ten films in between 400 (RotV) and 411 (NotH). This may also help narrow down whether Zombie Lake is on the range between 411 and 417 (2OV). Unless Powerhouse combines films like Redemption did, it may not! I do prefer films separate rather than 2-on-1s but I wonder if they pull a Redemption because I actually can't see them not doing Zombie Lake.

This truly is a fantastic movie. Have the redemption blu-ray and don't care about 4k but might double dip just for the new scan and lovely package.

Yes, the staggering amount of damage repair alone that Indicator did on the previous two Rollin 4k releases gives them a huge leg up over the prior damage-riddled blu rays (old transfers). I have a feeling that when their 4k of Night of the Hunted drops, the Redemption blu will be an air hockey puck instantly.

I understand that you don't like nudity on slipcovers but you can't even bring yourself to type the word "rape"?

All I know is, I just raped this preorder. Two copies of each for my library. Love these little hard-box mini-sets. Thanks, Indicator.

Next two 4k Rollin titles, please!!!

Technically, Le Viol du Vampire is the title.

The only paper I own for this film is this Belgian poster under that name.

Yeah, the Kino Redemption discs are good but they are clearly old scans, full of damage and instability. Like watching grindhouse print almost.

Have this from Kino. Am I missing something? It's about vampires? I didn't get the movie at all. It doesn't seem to have a plot or story. Or if it did, it changed every other minute. Maybe I need to revisit it, but I found it to be lacking anything worthy of a movie. Not trying to be rude to those who love it. I'm just telling it as I remember it.

Avoid this title at all costs. It’s definitely not a movie or anything resembling one. These very astute observations have now exposed Rollin as a fake finally.

Yes but you guys do everything differently. Drive on the wrong side of the road. Use centigrade instead of Fahrenheit. Day/month instead of month/day. It’s like you purposely want to separate yourselves

Wait…separate themselves? They live on an island! Before you know it, DW will be putting mayonnaise on his chips and milk in his tea just to be difficult. There’s even the odd notion that footballs are round. In reality, however, I think those fine folks sent us undesirables over here in a boat a few hundred years back, where we promptly got lost in the woods and forgot how to pronounce or spell most of our words.
