Gay Cinema on Blu-ray - Blu-ray Forum

I don't usually watch a lot of gay cinema because often the characters are so cliche and the storylines are so predictable, but recently I've discovered a few gems and have been really impressed! It seems there actually are extremely talented film makers taking on homophobia/gay issues and doing it in unexpected/creative ways.

Anyway, I think it would be nice to create a masterlist of all the films (released on blu ray) that have a fairly obvious gay theme or maybe includes a significant gay character. Here are the ones I could think of, plus the titles you guys suggested! Thanks so much!

Gay cinema movies are often cliche, but the mainstream ones do a great job. A Single Man is a great movie.

Yes! I must second this. A single Man was phenomenal. Letter days is also great.

It's a shame. I have A Single Man on DVD, but havent bothered to watch it yet. I'll probably give it a spin since it came up.

I'd say X-Men United. One of my favorites.

Wong Kar Wai's Happy Together. Amazing film.

Beginners is also hitting streets in November, in which Christopher Plummer, after being diagnosed with cancer, finally admits to his son that he's gay. Personally I think it's the best film this year.

Thirded. Wonderful film. Firth should have won for that role (as good as he was in The King's Speech; I sort of view that one partly as a "sorry for passing you up last year" award).

I'm hopping they release a few of mine down the road. I really want To Wong Foo, Stonewall, The Birdcage and But I'm a Cheerleader. I wouldn't mind seeing the Eating Out films put on BD as well. Haven't seen the third or fourth ones yet though.

They are releasing a 2-pack - I believe 1 disc - of Another Gay Movie and Another Gay Sequel in case anyone is interested in it. I had the DVDs, but recently traded them in so I can upgrade when the BD is released in a couple of months.

Not sure if it's 1 disc or not (probably) but yes, it will be released November 1st. The Pre Order is up on the TLA Releasing website, but no Amazon yet

It wasn't my personal favorite, but far better than Serious Man. The book is extremely excellent, though.

Not available on BD yet, as far as I could find, but I've been wanting to see that movie for a long time! I keep hearing great things about it.

Also coming to BD from TLA Releasing this year is "Make the Yuletide Gay" which they advertise with a "holiday" release date. A sequel to the movie is in the works so I'm wondering if it'll be wrapped up by this Christmas and released as well.

Just a warning about "Salo" - I watched it in a Graduate Level film course about a year ago and despite all the numerous warnings people told me about the film I was severly underprepaired for what I was about to watch. I even remember the title of my manditory essay was "Salo: 120 minutes of pure torture" - because that is what it felt like to watch the movie - like you were being tortured it is so graphic, damming and sick. By the time the film has finished 7 (out of a class of 12) people had walked out (forfiting their grade for the day) and the remainder of us where in such shock that we couldn't discuss the film.

I think he added it on there because it has a character who comes out or is gay. I don't think it has to be a gay themed movie, according to his original post.
