Just had a nice visit from LG's projector product managers at our showroom. I have high hopes for LG's new UST 4K HDR laser projector.
I listed a few more technical details on our dedicated HU85L web page and will be posting live from LG's CES press conference with the price and availability as well as my hands on 1st impressions at LG's CES private off site suite. |

I say wait around til CES 2020. Projectors are getting there. Without HDMI 2.1 and less than 3500 lumens for laser, I'll wait. They are getting there eventually. after all, you'll pay $3000 atleast.

If it's anything like the HU80KA, specs are nice, some decent (and hopeful) options, but will ultimately lag behind in color reproduction and performance from peoples' initial expectations.
Disappointment? Maybe if you want really good picture quality at that price range. Maybe not if you're into laser bulb technology, and good chassis design, and are willing to sacrifice amazing visual performance for portability and thoughtful design "wow" factor(s). If they do the same stuff they did with LG's laser projector for promotion, I'd be very, very skeptical. Watch out for: - No professional reviews before release - A smattering of scattershot "reviews" that fail to properly calibrate the projector, and/or do not address actual specifications of real-world lumens output, actual color performance based on the true capabilities/expectations of WCG, and black levels. - Paid advertisements from the big projector websites that will sing its praises, posing as an actual review. If this happens, I recommend: Holding off on purchase until the truth rears its head; for better or for worse. Last edited by KcMsterpce; 01-02-2019 at 04:33 AM. |

Sorry to respectfully disagree. Other than seeing prototypes at CES and CEDIA and loving the performance, just yesterday the chief engineers from S. Korea HQ visited our showroom with an engineering production HU85LA and we spent a couple hours running test patterns and content and comparing it to other UST and normal lens projection systems.
LG's new HU85LA is a very high performance UST HDR projector. |

Thanks for your reply Robert !
But it still isn't a full native 4k UST right ? |

I get it though, in my head I know it's not 'full native 4K' so I must be missing something. In the end I bought the NX5 because my brain kept telling me there had to be a difference. Truth be told I'd have more money in my pocket if I would listen to what my eyes were seeing rather than what my brain was telling me ![]() |

LG's new HU85LA is a native full 4K HDR chipset, it is not an e-shift chip. I confirmed this with LG's engineer in charge of projectors Last edited by Robert Zohn; 04-29-2019 at 12:16 PM. Reason: Correct the HU85LA to a native 4K HDR chipset |

Looks like a good product....now all we need is to get the actual product to demo/test.
So LG bring the pricing and release date details ! |

I've had LG's HU85LA engineering production unit at my house and in our showroom for personal testing in our three theaters. I love the performance, image quality and all of its built-in features.
LG selected my company as the pre-launch partner and we'll be hosting a demo event in our Scarsdale NY showroom on Saturday, August 24 and Sunday August 25th. I plan on setting up two HU85LAs, one in our beautiful lifestyle living room styled premium a/v demo area and the second HU85LA will be installed in our movie theater demo room. thanks for the heads up. I know it's not been released yet but do you know if the final price is closer to the $2.999 (announced price) or latest gossip one $5.999?. That will change completely my decision to wait for it in Sept. Thanks |
