Default Which 80s movie characters are most overdue for a screen comeback?

Which 80s movie characters do you think are most overdue for a screen comeback?

I don't think it would be right to bring Marty McFly back (and Zemeckis has said he won't allow it while he's alive), but I wouldn't mind a bit if the Beetlejuice sequel somehow finally materialized.

Soul Man

They should reboot and crossover with Back To School. Amy Schumer in the lead role.

Good topic.

I'd love to see Robocop back with Peter Weller if possible, one last time.

However, I think you're right to say Beetlejuice. LONG overdue - I want to see Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder back.

A sequel to Labyrinth was mentioned, with Lady Gaga attached. Probably dead in the water now but it could work if done right, although Bowie is a hard act to follow.

A sequel to Cocktail or Legend (if Tom Cruise is interested).

One more NOES sequel with Robert Englund would be nice.

I'll throw in Gremlins 3 as well, up there with Beetlejuice for me.

None, because I don't trust modern Hollywood's track record at not f***ing up beloved characters.

Fair point, understand where you're coming from. However, on a positive note I do have two words for you.

Rambo and Maverick.

True, but then again, even a blind squirrel can still find a nut every once and awhile

If they can do it without messing it up:

Tron should've been back by 2015, but it's now 2022 since the 2010 film... It has to reach the 28 year window before he can officially return.

A new Gizmo in a Gremlins on par with the first film's style. No talking, overly smart Gremlins as in the sequel.

They tried a sequel to This is Spinal Tap, but it was mostly a concert. Then the new material interviews of all the older band members disc set with the new album awhile back wasn't that funny IMO.
The main 3 are now 74, 74, and 78.

Surprised there wasn't a sequel to Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

I'd like to see a new Blob movie.

What about a sequel to They Live? Roddy Piper would have to be replaced.

I'd like to see more adventures with Extra E Terrestrial.

A new Who Framed Roger Rabbit movie could be cool to see.

A new Gumby movie could work.

I'd like to see a Pac-Man movie that actually stars Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Baby Pac-Man, Pac-Man Jr.

A He-Man vs Skeletor movie that resembles the 80s animated series/figures.

A Voltron live-action movie might work.

What about Mighty Mouse the movie?

A Gummi Bears movie set in Medieval times like the animated series.

Why is there no Jetsons live-action movie yet? Probably a bad idea.

When will there be a Thundercats live-action film?

I'd like to see a M.A.S.K. live-action movie, not blended with GI Joe or Transformers, just MASK vehicles and characters from the original series starring Matt Trakker vs Miles Mayhem.

Make a Snorks animated movie.

I think Keaten could deliver there but I doubt Burton could if he was directing/writting.

Speaking of Burtons I wouldnt mind seeing Jack return if it was in the right hands, I think Russell playing him as an "old master" who's still a clueless blowhard could work very well, not sure who would be best to make that though.

I think they’re rebooting Big Trouble in Little China with the Rock already. Unless that’s been squashed.

If they weren’t already doing a Fletch reboot with Jon Hamm, that would be my choice. Otherwise there aren’t a lot of 80s characters I’d like to see return mainly because the actors involved would be either too old or too dead to make it worthwhile.

I remember reading on another thread someone suggesting Tom Cruise reprising his role from Color of Money, which I think might be an intriguing idea by having him be the mentor this time around but I doubt that would be a high profile enough role to have any sort of relevancy today.

That seems to have gone rather quiet in the last year or more so I'm thinking maybe its died off, fan reaction to it never seemed that good and I strongly suspect such a film would be more outright goofy than the originals tongue in cheek style.

I would say as well thats probably the kind of film that needs a mid level budget so that the more hardcore fanbase will be enough.
