![]() From director Mary Nighy, the upcoming Lionsgate thriller Alice, Darling stars Anna Kendrick and is first coming to theaters in Los Angeles on December 30, 2022. The film will then be released nationwide in theaters, exclusively at AMC Theatres, on January 20, 2023. Anna Kendrick stars as a woman pushed to the breaking point by her psychologically abusive boyfriend, Simon. While on vacation with two close girlfriends, Alice rediscovers the essence of herself and gains some much-needed perspective. “Slowly, she starts to fray the cords of codependency that bind her. But Simon’s vengeance is as inevitable as it is shattering – and, once unleashed, it tests Alice’s strength, her courage, and the bonds of her deep-rooted friendships.” Kaniehtiio Horn, Charlie Carrick and Wunmi Mosaku star alongside Kendrick. |

At first glance, I thought it was a sequel to Don't Worry, Darling. Same character name and everything.
Anywho, looks decent enough. Not anything groundbreakingly original, per se, but has the potential to be powerful and a good message. I don't think I've ever seen Anna Kendrick do anything dramatic, so it'll be interesting to see how she handles heavier material. |

This is already my favourite Anna Kendrick performance of all time. The movie is very simple, but also very eloquent and I like the way it goes about pointing out the red flags in people who are living in abusive relationships.
It's also a very short movie, under 90 minutes including credits, it feels like it really didn't overstay its welcome. |

Saw this about a month ago. Anna is always great, but as a premise (emotionally abusive boyfriend), it really doesn't leave much of a mark. Highly forgettable. Watch Sleeping With the Enemy instead.
I'll say this. I guarantee you a lot of women would tell the guy to take a hike without an emotional scratch. The lead character is just way too weak mentally for a guy isn't much of a threat. |

One of the things Billy Eichner was talking about when he was promoting Bros was something about how he loves Brokeback Mountain, but it's not something he wants to rewatch a lot unlike a romcom like You've Got Mail... this is kind of like that. Anna Kendrick is great, the movie does it's job, but it's not likely something I'd ever want to rewatch often enough or at all to want to buy it. That's how I feel about a lot of things, or else I'd be dead-ass broke lol

This was a perfect AMC A-List film. Several fine performances, a tight script and beautiful shooting locations. Not something I need to own or anything but I’m glad I was able to to see it at a nice theater. I almost certainly would have missed it if I had to pay for a ticket.

First: This movie sucked. There were a few good hyperventilating scenes, and 87 minutes of boredom.
Second: Alice is behaving like a person who is about to commit suicide, and the "good" girls (all men are awful) never ask her what's wrong. Third: Besides what you see in real life (which is horrifying to say the least) if this is what women have become in 2023, stick in a fork in'em, they're done. Fourth: If she never stood up for herself against her verbally abusive boyfriend, how would he know there's something wrong? Filmmaking in the woke age SUCKS! |
