Default Don Hertzfeldt to Collaborate with Ari Aster on New Animated Horror Film

Quote:
Indie animator Don Hertzfeldt (“The World of Tomorrow,” “It’s Such A Beautiful Day”) is at the Overlook Film Festival, premiering his latest short, titled “Me.” He’s now confirming, what’s been rumored for a while now, a collaboration with Ari Aster.

Journalist Carlos Aguilar reports from the Q&A that the director announced the “big/expensive project that he had been developing and trying to get made for the last 15 years.” He described the project “as horror film in the same way his existentialist shorts are often seen as horror films.”

No additional details were given. Aster already dabbled with animation, in surreal fashion, during a portion of last year’s “Beau is Afraid” — Aster is said to have taken inspiration from Joaquín Cociña and Cristóbal León’s “The Wolf House.”

If, like me, you’re a fan of Hertzfeldt’s funny, tragic and philosophical works, then this is very good news. A team-up with Aster, on a feature length project, is music to my ears.
