USA House on the Edge of the Park 4K UHD (1980)

Coming from Severin: https://www.facebook.com/severinfilm...JkZ7oZPRtvLBpl

Quote:
To avoid marketplace confusion we wanted to let our North American customers know that in addition to all the new titles we're dropping in 2023, we are working on UHD upgrades of many of our more popular catalogue titles like HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK, BURIAL GROUND, ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST aka DR. BUTCHER M.D. and more. New 4k scans from negatives, HDR Dolby Vision color correction and additional special features. Announcements will hit when the extensive work is done on the new masters.

There is a comparison with the defective release of Severin.

At 88 films, compression is a little lame. The grain is not stable.

When it comes to Severin's transfers they don't have a good track record.

The Five Days and Four Flies were both excellent 4K presentations. So this is where I'm torn.

Fortunately the question will answer itself. The 88 4k disc is shipping now. You can wait to see how the user feedback looks, and then wait for reviews and comparos when the Severin 4k disc finally drops, and pick the winner then. I already own the corrected Severin blu, and have the 88 4k inbound. When the Severin 4k releases, unless the reviews are very negative, I'll probably grab it also, to support the title as well as these boutiques' efforts in bringing us these kinds of titles. I will also want to compare the 4k discs in person, on my own gear, and judge for myself, which is always immensely educational.

So they've accessed the negative for Burial Ground unlike 88 Films? Interesting...

I suspect not, in the case of that one title. I assume their vague reference was a generalization regarding the larger number of titles they mentioned. If 88 Films is saying that BG's OCN is damaged to the point of unusable, I don't see how Severin would conclude otherwise. We shall see.

It's too bad vinegar syndrome couldn't be the sole place where these kinds of films get released......

Yes, very young by today's standards.

So sad to lose Giovanni, he was a lovely kind man. Had many chats with him. I'll miss him greatly.

Rest easy my friend.

I bought it a couple of months ago. Haven't watched it yet, but what's wrong with it, that requires a replacement program?

People have asked 88 Films on Facebook, but the only answer they get is "Just little errors that we felt we ought to fix".

So, what needs fixing?

Some misframing, mostly. There was discussion on it in the Severin Blu-ray thread on pages 16 & 17: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...346412&page=16

Edit: Looks like there was a more thorough discussion in 88's own thread regarding multiple errors (misframing, audio, subtitles): https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=350851

Tbh I didn't even notice any issues with the framing whilst watching. My main issues were with the audio: the music becomes really distorted at one point during the opening titles, and there's a line later in the film which is out-of-sync.

I returned my set due to the audio issues. Have those been corrected now?

Not yet. A replacement disc is apparently still in the works, slated for availability possibly in September.
