Quote:
Three-time Oscar®-winning* filmmaker Oliver Stone brings to life this ferocious, sexy crime epic. In a glittering California beach town, two best friends' innovative marijuana business has come to the attention of the ruthless Mexican Baja Cartel. As a seemingly unwinnable war unfolds around them, they're forced to take part in a brutal battle of wills to save the woman they both love. Starring Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, John Travolta, Benicio del Toro and Salma Hayek, Savages is 'a stylish, violent, hallucinatory thriller.' (Ty Burr, Boston Globe).

*1978: Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium, Midnight Express; 1986: Best Director, Platoon; 1989: Best Director, Born On The Fourth Of July

it still baffles the mind that if you have both cuts in 4K, why not present them both via seamless branching on the UHD disc. Only Shout I guess.....

As I understand it, seamless branching has a patent, and companies must pay for it, which none of these companies want to do.

I don't think that's it, as I'm pretty sure the Blu-ray included here is using seamless branching, with both cuts included on one disc. SF has used seamless branching on other 4K discs before too, but not regularly. I would guess it's more likely that it was Stone's preference and call to just have the 4K disc be the unrated cut, as that seems to be the case with some other Shout / Stone releases.

I hated this film when it came out. It was the last new release from Stone I bothered to see in theaters. Something about it just rubbed me wrong.

Yeah it was so-so imo. I remember it just being kind of a box office dud when it came out. I have the regular BD, don't see a reason to buy it on 4K.

This is the Unrated Edition. The Theatrical Cut is BD only.

I mean, they could sell the theatrical cut on UHD in the future but me thinks that's not happening.

I didn't get this movie, the ending did she imagine it or some shit?
I lost interest halfway, and couldn't care less anymore.

It's decent, but there is no way this is underrated. A nice 40 dollar starting point after tax LMAO. Yeah no. This is like a 5 dollar bluray bargain bin movie now being sold as some elitist indie. I just roll my eyes at the current pricing for 4K.

I like the cast, but after watching the trailer, I remember I watched it when it came out to rent, and I thought it was very average and forgettable.

It's underrated compared to Stone's other films. Platoon, Wall Street, Born on the Fourth of July, The Doors, Natural Born Killers, Nixon, etc. I think Savages gets lost among the heavy hitters.

Oh for sure, it was hardly even seen or known to be his film. In that way I think yeah sure. I thought it was decent. reviews were the typical all over the place kind of thing. Had that edge that he has for this type of material, but I didn't think it was great.

I want this answer as well because if they do, then I know what’s coming and I can’t wait.

I think these are the only realistic candidates left:

Any Given Sunday (Warner)
Heaven and Earth (Warner)
Talk Radio (Universal) (w/ Kino)
Snowden (Universal)

Unfortunately, Kino got Talk Radio and they’re only doing a BD release.

You are correct, that it is patented - back to the earliest DVD days - and must be paid for.
