Rockstar Games is keeping its card close to its chest in regards to Grand Theft Auto 6, but fresh rumors about the crime juggernaut have suggested that it could be set in Vice City.
That’s according to Pete Rice’s retro 80s synthwave project Vector Hold, which specialises in sound design and production for 80s/90s retro gaming soundtracks and film scoring. According to Rice, folk involved in music rights clearing have started to contact Synthwave artists for a radio station, which suggests that Vice City could make a comeback in the new GTA. Quote:
The synthwave community is very tight, so doesn't surprise me at all that they're sharing this with one another. https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaks...wave/?sort=top |

GTAVI in Vice City could be cool. I wonder if the mall will return. Will it be flashback radio in modern times, or 80s radio set in the 80s?
If it's modern times of 2020, the mall will probably be emptier than years ago based on declining mall attendance of the past 8 years with many malls closing and mall growth stalled almost completely. If it's set in the 80s, it'd be cool to see the 80s mall again and hopefully be able to ride a motorcycle through there in GTAVI. |

The rumour that woudln't go away with GTA6 being set principally in Vice City has been swirling around for a couple of year; the earliest i remember is the working title 'GTA: Americas' with the rest of the action taking place in some south american drug-fueled banana republic.

Vice City makes the most sense imo if part of the game does go for the Narco style story that was rumoured with a "Cuba/Miami" type link. I personally don't know why R* cannot seem to escape their past.
They had Liberty City for GTA3 and then GTA4 it got recreated. Technically San Andreas as the 5th entry used a new City and then GTA V recreated that but then Vice City now seems to be on the cards. There's almost no attempt at them it seems getting away from re-using names of places and making similarities apparent between them. For example, they haven't done anything in East Asia or even gone to a more European location to try a 3D London location. |

Not sure that a London-based GTA game would work, and Hong Kong is out after the superb Sleeping Dogs... |

The martial arts in Sleeping Dogs was fun. Hong Kong was cool, but the city was a bit repetitive visually. Still a welcome change of pace, and I liked the game enough to rebuy the PS4 version remaster, which wasn't a big improvement over the PS3 version other than resolution mostly.
But yeah, I always wished GTA would visit Chicago which is a gigantic city, or the northwest, or London. Australia would be fun too. New Zealand. Russia maybe could be visited related to Niko from GTAIV. It would be interesting to see Miami again but with better graphics of the PS5 vs the PS2. I still remember the PS2 cheat option that let Tommy float into the air when he jumped. That was fun to get a better view of things. What's interesting is Rockstar called those games Vice City, or San Andreas, or Liberty City Stories, not considering them true sequels to GTA3, but they were just as valid as full games as GTAIV and V are. |

So that's Leslie Benzies, Dan Houser and now Lazlow Jones having left Rockstar. Nice work, Take Two, hope the cash keeps coming in for you on GTA 5 Online...

I think GTA 6 has a tough road ahead but maybe that's what their tactic was too. GTA Online was doing so well it just made sense to milk it as much as possible and let a decade go by before a new GTA and have people "reset" expectations by using next gen hardware to deliver another type of experience technically not possible on current gen. That or they just made too much easy money via GTA Online ![]() |

Honestly wouldn't surprise me. This GTA rumour goes back to last year and there are a lot of rumours going around recently about Sony throwing money at practically every single 3rd party developer for various levels of exclusivity deals. Great for anyone that's buying a PS5 I guess
