Default Grand Theft Auto VI - Coming 2025

Rockstar Games is keeping its card close to its chest in regards to Grand Theft Auto 6, but fresh rumors about the crime juggernaut have suggested that it could be set in Vice City.

That’s according to Pete Rice’s retro 80s synthwave project Vector Hold, which specialises in sound design and production for 80s/90s retro gaming soundtracks and film scoring. According to Rice, folk involved in music rights clearing have started to contact Synthwave artists for a radio station, which suggests that Vice City could make a comeback in the new GTA.

Quote:
GTA6 will most likely take place in Vice City. Music rights clearing people have been hitting up Synthwave artists for a “Radio Station”.
Context: 'Vector Hold is a new retro 80's Synthwave project by Peter Brian Rice from the San Francisco Bay Area. specializing in sound design and production for 80's/90's retro gaming soundtracks, film scoring.'

The synthwave community is very tight, so doesn't surprise me at all that they're sharing this with one another.

GTAVI in Vice City could be cool. I wonder if the mall will return. Will it be flashback radio in modern times, or 80s radio set in the 80s?

If it's modern times of 2020, the mall will probably be emptier than years ago based on declining mall attendance of the past 8 years with many malls closing and mall growth stalled almost completely.

If it's set in the 80s, it'd be cool to see the 80s mall again and hopefully be able to ride a motorcycle through there in GTAVI.

Or a Vice City remaster? Vice City expansion for GTA Online?

Just gimmie that sweet, sweet, 80's soundtrack once again and I'll be happy.

The rumour that woudln't go away with GTA6 being set principally in Vice City has been swirling around for a couple of year; the earliest i remember is the working title 'GTA: Americas' with the rest of the action taking place in some south american drug-fueled banana republic.

Vice City makes the most sense imo if part of the game does go for the Narco style story that was rumoured with a "Cuba/Miami" type link. I personally don't know why R* cannot seem to escape their past.

They had Liberty City for GTA3 and then GTA4 it got recreated. Technically San Andreas as the 5th entry used a new City and then GTA V recreated that but then Vice City now seems to be on the cards.

There's almost no attempt at them it seems getting away from re-using names of places and making similarities apparent between them. For example, they haven't done anything in East Asia or even gone to a more European location to try a 3D London location.

Narmak, i hear ya, kid. Every damn time a new GTA game is rumoured i really hope that Rockstar open up the worldmap and take the damn series elsewhere outside of the US. When GTA: Bay City was a rumour, i thought that was fantastic, having a new game take place in the GTA take on Sydney in Australia. Shame it never happened.

Not sure that a London-based GTA game would work, and Hong Kong is out after the superb Sleeping Dogs...

The martial arts in Sleeping Dogs was fun. Hong Kong was cool, but the city was a bit repetitive visually. Still a welcome change of pace, and I liked the game enough to rebuy the PS4 version remaster, which wasn't a big improvement over the PS3 version other than resolution mostly.

But yeah, I always wished GTA would visit Chicago which is a gigantic city, or the northwest, or London. Australia would be fun too. New Zealand. Russia maybe could be visited related to Niko from GTAIV.

It would be interesting to see Miami again but with better graphics of the PS5 vs the PS2.

I still remember the PS2 cheat option that let Tommy float into the air when he jumped. That was fun to get a better view of things.

What's interesting is Rockstar called those games Vice City, or San Andreas, or Liberty City Stories, not considering them true sequels to GTA3, but they were just as valid as full games as GTAIV and V are.

Is there any franchise out there that is taking longer to develop the next title in the series? From GTA 4 in 2008, and then GTA5 in 2013, we have now had a 7 year gap so far between games with no sign of GTA 6 on the horizon. It seems Take 2 Interactive are putting the strongarm on Rockstar whilst T2I milk the online GTA cashcow...

I don't know much about Australia but there has been a PS1 version of GTA set in London before and The Getaway was a really good clone of GTA set in London. I'd say Sleeping Dogs was good, but it was also janky. The movement and stuff was very "arcadey" even compared to say GTA V. More of a True Crime than GTA and the way R* could do it would have been interesting but with the China/US relations as they are, doubt that gets touched. Japan is also possible but handled by Yakuza already. So perhaps a South Korean setting with satire on the North might be on the cards.

Europe definitely has some potential in loads of locations. A "fish out if water" version of GTA IV but Nichola going to Russia

It seems to me that the absolute backbone of a GTA game has got to be it's satire, and that would be hard for Rockstar to do if they moved beyond US borders. North/South Korea would be a major turn-off for a lot of people, as would 'Rags To Riches in Russia'.

This.

Best soundtrack and setting in all of the series imo. Returning to Vice City would be a dream come true.

Lazio has left R* was one of the funniest parts of the old games.

Quote:
Lazlow Jones, best known for his radio shows in the Grand Theft Auto Series has left Rockstar Games after almost 20 years with the company.

Lazlow Jones was also a Writer and Producer for Rockstar Games, yes he did a whole lot more than just talk on Radio Shows in Grand Theft Auto. He first joined the company in April 2001 and made his first Radio appearance in Grand Theft Auto: III, in Grand Theft Auto V, Lazlow made an appearance as a character as the host of Fame Or Shame.

So that's Leslie Benzies, Dan Houser and now Lazlow Jones having left Rockstar. Nice work, Take Two, hope the cash keeps coming in for you on GTA 5 Online...

We don't quite know the reason for departure but sometimes people just want new challenges. 20 years is a LONG time to be doing anything.

At this point you wonder if any future game will ever recapture the fun of the old ones.

I think as time moves on, things ebb and flow. We sometimes don't find things as good as we once did but nostalgia made us feel it was better for example.

I think GTA 6 has a tough road ahead but maybe that's what their tactic was too. GTA Online was doing so well it just made sense to milk it as much as possible and let a decade go by before a new GTA and have people "reset" expectations by using next gen hardware to deliver another type of experience technically not possible on current gen.

That or they just made too much easy money via GTA Online

Honestly wouldn't surprise me. This GTA rumour goes back to last year and there are a lot of rumours going around recently about Sony throwing money at practically every single 3rd party developer for various levels of exclusivity deals. Great for anyone that's buying a PS5 I guess
