Default Shark Bait (2022)

Another month, another shark movie - Shark Bait deals with a group of vacationers fending off hungry sharks after they collide their jet skis into one another. Apparently from some of the same people that did 47 Meters Down.

The US release features Tubi Films in its studio credits meaning that this may eventually hit the service.

It may be your average shark movie, but unlike The Requin with Alicia Silverstone which had the worst effects of any shark movie in recent years (not counting those shoe string budget shark movies that no name company's release) the CGI is on par with the aformentioned 47 Meters films and the end result is a better experience. . .EASILY. Helps that it's also fairly short and quick moving.

One of the death scenes references
[Show spoiler] the infamous deleted scene from Jaws where the boater attacked in the lagoon/pond drags Martin Brody along as she shark munches on him.

every time one of these movies comes out, it should make people reconsider that jaws IV isn’t as bad as people make it out to be. the biggest problem with all these shark knockoffs, they’re all so generic. if you’re curious, that might not even matter.

keep all these terrible cg sharks. give me that sweet italian knock off great white animatronic.

You mean stock footage of great white aniimatronic ripped from five other shark movies, lol.

Yeah, I'm in to kill some time. And I enjoy some of these shark films; I have a fairly extreme phobia of being in large bodies of water, anywhere from the nearest freshwater shoreline to a distant Pacific cruise to a tropical paradise. Not a fan. So yes, this will push my buttons nicely, I think. I'll let ya know.

Ah yes, I had fun with that one.

Kinda hard to keep these movies in order, what with so many of them, haha!

I genuinely love the 47 Meters Down sequel. It’s just hysterical.

Shark Bait 2022, not to be confused with Bait 3D, also about sharks.

Too often, these are party beach movies and then their party is interrupted. Same with the Piranha movies.

As far as terrible shark movies go this….wasn’t that terrible. Maybe I’ve just seen one too many abysmal SyFy shark movies so that when I see something even remotely competent I have a good time with it. The gore was decent and seemed mostly practical and when we see the shark it didn’t look half bad. Also while the characters were thinly written they still resembled actual human beings as opposed to the characters we usually see in these cheap shark movies.

It did what it needed to do - less than 90 minutes of some pretty people trying to outsmart a Great White. I didn’t mind it at all.

The shark attacks had more bite to them with this film.

What really helped this film is that it either had a decent budget for solid CG work or the director actually knew what they were doing with what they had, something that was sorely lacking in The Requiem earlier this year.

Quite enjoyed Bait, especially the 3D!

On the plus side, that film had Kelly Brook!

Bait 3D was entertaining and a bit different, in that they had the shark enter the grocery store, which I haven't seen before.

Kelly Brook, okay, yes, she was in Piranha 3D, the first one. I haven't seen that in awhile. I'll have to check it out again.

Looks like Germany's getting a blu; does Square One Entertainment (Leonine Films) do region free?

https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Jack-True...dp/B0B148DJNC/

Edit: Well, from the Square One site, I found one* of their Leonine Films blus a user here listed as no playback for A, so--not definitive--but not looking good. I guess this Jet Ski-set chomper's landlocked on DVD for me...

It'd be nice if there actually was a shark as big as the one in the thumbnail in the movie.

Question

People in the Jaws thread clamoring for a "Jaws 5": Look at this, and The Requin, and tell me how the title "Jaws" magically makes it better?
