'48 Hrs.' Remake in the Works With 'Good Time' Filmmakers (Exclusive)

Quote:
As with Good Time, Josh Safdie will handle script duties on top of directing and will co-write the script with Ronald Bronstein, who co-wrote Good Time. New to the equation will be Jerrod Carmichael, the comedian who starred on and co-created the NBC comedy The Carmichael Show.

Good Time has brought acclaim to the Safdies and has been nominated this year for several Independent Spirit Awards. The brothers were nominated for a Palm d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, where the movie premiered and won an award for its score.

48hrs is one of my favorite movies, but I do understand that it is dated and if they look to make it and outright serious movie they can take the basic idea and maybe make a decent movie. However, there is no real reason to call it 48 hrs since most movie goers today probably haven't seen or know very little of the film. It's not as popular as Lethal Weapon and Die Hard is.

As I said, the plot is pretty basic and so it's not hard to build a movie off of it, but Hollywood doesn't have anything that can do what Murphy and Nolte did here. Them a long with Walter Hill's direction really lifted the material and so I hope they don't go for the type of banter we saw in the original. It will fail if they do.
