24 Hz vs 120 Hz

whats the difference between 24hz, 60hz and 120hz? and for some reason i cant turn on my BD 1080p 24 Hz output (HDMI).

then your tv can not do it, so it is grayed out.

Use the search function, this question was just asked 2 days ago, I think it had the same title too.
