Vivo (2021) - August 9th, 2022 - Blu-ray Forum

Sony Pictures Animation will be releasing the animated musical film Vivo (2021) on Blu-ray on August 9th. It stars, and has new original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Like The Mitchells vs. The Machines, the film was distributed digitally by Netflix.

But when tragedy strikes shortly after Andrés receives a letter from the famous Marta Sandoval (three-time Grammy-winning Latin pop legend Gloria Estefan), inviting her old partner to her farewell concert with the hope of reconnecting, it's up to Vivo to deliver a message that Andrés never could: A love letter to Marta, written long ago, in the form of a song. Yet in order to get to Marta, who lives a world apart, Vivo will need the help of Gabi (newcomer Ynairaly Simo) -- an energetic tween who bounces to the beat of her own offbeat drum to fulfill his owner's wishes.

Well, I sure am glad to know that this did eventually make it to physical media.

Maybe Wish Dragon will follow afterwards, some time later.

It's always neat to see a streaming exclusive title make its way to physical media! My only bummer with this release is the lack of bonus features, you'd think they'd include some bits covering the Miranda's song writing process or even the development of the feature. I'll still be picking this one up as I love the new direction Sony Pictures Animation is heading!

Any indication why this was not released in 4k? If I recall correctly, Mitchells vs. The Machines was not released in 4k b/c the 'somebody' (director?) said it did not look great in 4k? Something along those lines. I haven't watched either on disc yet, but both would have shined with some HDR.

This came in an extremely cheap case. I was surprised. Usually Sony does the sturdier ones.

I watched this movie today and didn't expect to cry as much as I did.

It's got some emotional parts that just got to me. I avoided trailers and spoilers knowing I was going to get this but I had purchased the soundtrack on iTunes several months ago because I loved the music when I first sampled it. Really enjoyed this one, even with the tears. Glad to have in my collection.

When I first heard about this movie, I found this YouTube video from Netflix and saved the link so I could watch it after seeing the movie. Just finished viewing it. It's a nice 25 minute clip of all the songs (with sing along lyrics) from the movie. Of course, the Blu-ray includes a sing-along version of the movie too.
