Ok Im not good at audio at all. I have speakers and a sub woofer and a center channel from an older sony reciever/speaker set. i was wondering if i get an hdmi HD receiver can i just use those speakers? or do i have to get special speakers that can handle hd? these speakers run off speaker wire..thanks guys

The speaker wire does not carry the PCM signal, the HDMI cable carry it to the receiver, which then send amplification to the speakers, so, there you go. In the home theater forum, you might be able to use the search eature if you are seeking a more detailed explanation. I hope the jump to hi-def audio is as good to you as it was to me.
