20th Century Fox Untitled Alien: Romulus Sequel

According to 20th Century Studio boss Steve Asbell:

Quote:
We’re working on a sequel idea now. We haven’t quite closed our deal with Fede [Alvarez], but we are going to, and he has an idea that we’re working on. The two survivors, Rain and Andy, played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, were real highlights of the film. And so I always think of it like, “Wow, where do people want to see them go next?” We know there’s going to be aliens. We know there’s going to be great horror set pieces. But I fell in love with both of them and I want to see what their story is.

This happened faster than a Covenant sequel. Well, I'm in.

Ready for Alien: Remus.

Fede deserves it. He created a great Alien movie that somehow respected every entry in the series so far and made the xeno scary again. He balanced old and new very well. There were a couple of silly moments in it and the facehuggers felt a little.....off but if that's all the complaints I have in a 50 year old franchise I adore then I consider it a win.

I want a sequel to Covenant more than anything. But I don't trust Fede would do it justice in any way. Not worth it without Ridley's involvement IMO.

Default Wait, There's More

I created a duplicate entry for the sequel, but then updated the entry for the following:

Quote:
So there’s a secret Predator movie? There’s a secret Predator movie that will come out before the theatrical one but I can’t say anything about yet.

Fine. Will we eventually see another Alien vs. Predator? Probably.

Not sure how I feel about that. It wouldn’t be in the way you think. That’s the thing. Not in the way that it will just be called Alien vs. Predator or anything like the original movies. If we do this, they’ll be organically created out of these two franchises that we’ve continued with characters that we fall in love with and those characters will combine…perhaps. But we haven’t gotten to that point. And we’re not just going to bang it out.
If we do this? Perhaps? Seems like a done deal waiting for the right time to make an announcement, or perhaps see how the box office plays out for the sequels. Well, at least there's now a thread for it.

As far as Fede and the sequel, it was a good time at the movies, but personally no more than a mid entry. Perhaps I'll feel differently when I watch the disc, but right now, I wouldn't rank Romulus above Prometheus and Covenant, and while flawed, there were moments in 3 and Resurrection that I'm not sure Romulus attained.

All good all the same, as now the Alien franchise is firmly in the realm of Fede, Rain and Andy, and boy, it would be a bit of a blast for Trachtenberg to direct a new AvP, or have Fede & Dan co-direct.

Quote:
But did Álvarez feel guilty for making a new "Alien" movie when the trilogy Scott had wanted to make with the "Prometheus" films has seemingly stalled out? "I did. And originally, my first intention, which we might figure out a way to do if we get to make another after this, is to merge them," Álvarez noted (and, truth be told, there is a surprising amount of "Prometheus" nestled within "Alien: Romulus"). "I think that's what I want to see. I never liked the idea that something got suspended and some stories were not really finished. And I think he really wants to also find a conclusion to some of the stuff he started with 'Prometheus' and 'Covenant.' But I'm one that wants to make sure that everything builds up to one big finale."
I'd love for this to be Fede's next step for Alien with Ridley Scott hypothetically producing again.

If not Ridley Scott directing a conclusion to his prequel story, I'd want to see Fede and him collab deeper than they did on Romulus to make sure the Scott Free Production house style is palpable while tying up the loose threads started in Prometheus with David 8 and the Engineers. I'd be thrilled if Ridley could be hands on for even just a sequence the scope of Alien: Covenant | Prologue: The Crossing as his last direct word on the series.

If what I read on The wrap is what Fede propositioned as the sequel to Romulus, I'm all in. Plus seeing how Fede only acknowledged Prometheus lore and on the AVP Galaxy podcast, Fede mentioned the company knew of the pathogen via what Janek or Vickers sent back to Weyland HQ via what they came across in the murals in LV-223, the samples that David put into the system and later Vickers perhaps sent to HQ than the messages David sent after Covenant, I'm wondering either Covenant gets retcon (even if Romulus already kinda retcon it with the pathogen coming from the Xeno, not what we saw with Covenant) and reintroduce Dr Shaw and the engineers or the other option Raine and Andy come across the Covenant or come under grief and land on Origae-6, David fixes Andy and over time begin to realize what David has been doing and try to escape him and his little army of Xenos. In between, Andy reveals to David he was no creator like his father, which breaks David down... There's many creative ways to close the prequels successfully and to be honest, I trust Fede to execute it than Sir Riddles sadly.

As a big fan of Covenant and Romulus, I am hoping this next film will be the "magic bullet" which truly serves as a sequel to both.

This “scoop” is utter lunacy, but I should probably tackle it since you’re going to be seeing an innumerable amount of articles comibg out because of it.

Daniel Richtman is reporting that Fede Alvarez’s “Alien: Romulus” sequel might be bringing back a de-aged Sigourney Weaver as Ripley. The accuracy of the intel is suspect, but it’s now out there and we’ll let Alvarez confirm or debunk it.

‘Romulus’ already found the franchise's new Ripley in the form of Cailee Spaeny's Rain. Spaeny played a female heroine who wasn’t afraid to pick up a gun and blast xenomorphs. Why does this franchise need to bring back Weaver when you already have her?

‘Romulus’ also acted as a bridge between Ridley Scott’s “Alien” and James Cameron's “Aliens” — the storyline occurred while Ripley was in cryosleep after the events of the ‘79 original. Alvarez recently revealed that ‘Romulus’ contained a Ripley Easter Egg where you could see Ripley’s Nostromo shuttle from far away.

Regardless, it looks like the ‘Alien’ franchise will live to see another day. Spurred by strong audience scores, ‘Romulus’ earned $100M domestically, and $350M worldwide. The budget was only $80M.

Last fall, 20th Century boss Steve Asbell confirmed that a sequel to ‘Romulus’ was already in the works, and that Alvarez, alongside actors Spaeny and David Jonsson, were set to return. A Weaver comeback still seems a bit far fetched, but let the rumors begin.
