The reviews I got here on Reign of Fire was great! This is one fantastic BLU! Now I'm looking at Virtical Limit, Seven years in Tibet, Troy. Anyone seen these on Blu? Looking for great Blu's. Thanks

Seven Years in Tibet on Blu-ray is outstanding. You won't be disappointed.

I wasn't so impressed with Vertical Limit. The dialogue was rather flimsy and the scenery really didn't make up for the poor screenplay. I rented the BD release, but I won't be adding this one to my BD collection.

I agree, Seven Years in Tibet is wonderful in blu-ray! I watched it about a week ago and was amazed! Its also a great movie that never got its due.

Agreed!! I was happy that this came out so early in blus life.

The U.S version of Vertical Limit is MPEG-2 encoded. The U.K Blu-ray released by Sony is AVC encoded. Both versions offer decent PQ if not great probably due to encoding from an old HD master and frequent applying of EE. Definitely a decent upgrade in PQ/SQ over both Superbit and regular DVD but not night and day.

great movie if you're at all interested in the entire tibetan/buddhism thing. it's obviously not an action movie though.

to the OP - agree with the above. seven years in tibet looks outstanding on BD.

I thought Vertical Limit had its ups and downs but all in all it was much better than its DVD counterpart.

Seven Years in Tibet was an amazing film and is one that I need to add to my collection. It looks outstanding as well.

Reign of Fire was a very odd film for me. I havent taken the plunge into purchasing it yet. I rented it but It was a weird role, I thought, for Matthew McConnaughey (sp) and christain bale. It looked aight tho. i jus had a hard time getting into it

I've seen Seven Years in Tibet when it first came out on DVD. The mountains in BLU should be fantastic! Like walking in a Planet Earth series. As far as PQ. Can't wait to see it!

out of the ones you mentioned, definitly don't pass up Seven years in tibet

it was practically a blind buy for me, other than seeing some decriptions, and i thought it was great.

troy is a good movie but i never seen it on BD so i cant give ya my opinion.

But get SYIT, you will be happy

Vertical Limit and Seven years in tibet are awesome, id buy seven years in tibet first if you cant buy both.

TROY!!! WOW, i enjoyed my copy and glad i brought it. I recommend troy too. The ones you listed is great blus to buy IMO

I used to rock climb a lot when I was in high school. I still feel that Verticle Limit and CLiffhanger are two of the funniest movies ever made.

Out of the 3 you listed, Troy has the best PQ. Seven Years in Tibet is probably the best movie. I enjoyed all 3 though and the PQ is pretty good on all 3.

I have only seen 7 years on Blu. it's a great movie and the PQ on Blu was very good. You won't be disappointed there. The best scenes are of either the landscape with the Himalyas or of the bright reds and orange colors typically found in the Tibetan culture set against the dull and earthly background tones. As far as the movie goes, if you haven't seen it, I would recommend it.

I actually ordered the UK edition of VERTICAL LIMIT at amazon.co.uk, but got the US release instead. I watched it today, and it has a pretty high bitrate AVC codec, not the MPEG-2 codec as noted under the specs on this site. Another poster mentioned the same thing in the user reviews.
I thought the PQ was an easy 4/5.
SQ was a definite 5/5 Nonstop surround activity! Just fantastic!

Is this a re-issue?

As previously posted...I have the same exact packaging as the old MPEG-2 UPC/SKU but the disc I have is AVC. Probably a silent update of some sort.

I watched it today, and it has a pretty high bitrate AVC codec, not the MPEG-2 codec as noted under the specs on this site. Another poster mentioned the same thing in the user reviews. I thought the PQ was an easy 4/5. SQ was a definite 5/5 Nonstop surround activity! Just fantastic! Is this a re-issue?
