Default Wakaliwood Supa Action Volume 1: Who Killed Captain Alex? + Bad Black May 14th, 2019

The American Genre Film Archive (AGFA) is handling this release.

Quote:
Welcome to Wakaliwood, Uganda: home of DA BEST OF DA BEST MOVIES! and the vanguards of DIY commando cinema! Under the guidance of writer-director-producer Nabwana Isaac Godfrey Geoffrey (IGG) and with producer-star Alan Ssali Hofmanis, this crack crew of self-taught filmmakers and martial arts aficionados produce dozens of gonzo action films in the Kampala ghetto with budgets that rarely exceed $200 USD. Utilizing scrap parts to build computers, machine guns, and a full-sized Huey helicopter, these real-life superheroes inspire more heart, imagination, and soul than a thousand Hollywood blockbusters.

AGFA is proud to bring two of the most reckless, out-of-control brain-blasts in the Wakaliwood canon to home video for the first time ever -- WHO KILLED CAPTAIN ALEX and BAD BLACK! Andin Uganda's finest storytelling tradition, the films are complemented by the acerbic wit ofnarrator/VJ (Video Joker) VJ Emmie, who sums up the Wakaliwood experience with a single sentiment: It is a love story . . . LOVE OF ACTION!

NOTE: These films were fueled by love and created with DIY equipment. Please approach the technical quality of the transfers with empathy.

Special Features:
Director's Commentary
Welcome videos for 14 countries
Music videos
Interviews and news clips
Trailers and commercials
Behind da scenes
BAD BLACK with VJ Emmie
WHO KILLED CAPTAIN ALEX with or without VJ Emmie
Fan videos from around da world
Subtitles in 40 languages and dialects
REGION-FREE
This is a Day 1 purchase for me. I cannot wait.

You can watch Who Killed Captain Alex for free on Wakaliwood’s official YouTube channel here:

It does say in that video all that exists is a DVD quality master, but this still looks worth a watch for what it is.

Damn! I ordered the DVD-r of Alex from them a couple of years ago. It was signed and came with stickers and posters, and was addressed to Supa instead of Mr They also threatened to shoot me in an email! I'm getting this, no question

Default Ugandan action movies Bad Black and Who Killed Captain Jack? On Blu? UNPOSSIBLE!

Oh holy shit!

A year or two ago, I had the pleasure of catching the world premiere of Bad Black, a Ugandan action movie starring "Arnold Schwarzenegger", produced by Wakaliwood, a group of people who live in a ghetto who managed to piece together a working computer, got their hands on a video camera and made their own damn movie.

They'll shoot and edit a movie, show it around their village for a couple of weeks, and then record over the old footage for an all new movie. Hell, if you email them and send them a MP4, they'll put you in their movie (it happened to us, the entire theater writhing in the theater seats, "dying" from a plague. It was awesome!)

Coherent? Not even close. Big budget? I think I have more money the change cup on my desk that Bad Black cost to make. But goddamn it was entertaining!

AGFA, god bless their cult movie hearts, are releasing Who Killed Captain Jack AND Bad Black on Blu Ray! That VHS quality source is gonna look AMAZING on Blu!

Seriously tho, if you like weird, quirky shit put together by people who have far more enthusiasm than talent and budget, check this disc out!

Here, just a sample:

Those action scenes are better shot and edited than some low budget American action films I've seen. Looks like a hell of a fun time!

For what they are, they're actually pretty . . . well, I'd hesitate to say "good" - but good, relatively speaking. If I had to watch anything from Wakaliwood or The Room or Birddemic, I'd go Wakaliwood 10 times out of 10. I know that's an amazingly low bar to cross, but there you go.

We'll put it this way. There were originally only two showings at the SIFF, and the programmers found two more slots to show it - and they were all pretty full houses for each showing.

Those movies are brilliant! If you claim that you have witnessed a more action packed 30 seconds of cinema than this, then you sir are a liar:

I would even say better edited than plenty of big budget American action movies.
