I bought the Dutch release yesterday (the blu-ray came out over here this week), but I haven't watched it yet. It includes all the extras from the US DVD.

I was so sad when I first saw this movie. Though I think I was like, 10, so anything with natural disasters pretty much scared me at the time.

Any chance Universal will put the great trailer on there? (They didn't on the 15 ann dvd)...also, how about an isolated score?

I don't think there's a chance that both are included. The Dutch release doesn't inlcude those features.

Depending on the review and price this will be an early 2011 purchase.

Can't believe the reviewer only gave the film itself only three stars out of a possible five. To each their own I guess...

I saw this in the mid 90s when I was a teenager, and admittedly not the most astute film credit at the time, and thought it was great. The reviewer gave it a pretty good thrashing, like it was almost personal. lol When reading his review and recollecting my own experience I think he has some points.

But for me, having such a good personal experience watching it, the high marks for PQ/AQ, and the quality of the actors and their performances, even when they are acting out cliches, is enough to make this a worthy addition to my collection.

To those that are scared away by the review, I would recommend a rental to see where you come out. How can you go completely wrong with Kurt Russell, Robert DeNiro, Donald Sutherland and Scott Glenn all in the same movie??

Talking Ron Howard, I wish Universal will release SE blu's of "Parenthood" and "The Paper" (call it the "Stop The Presses Edition") Both are only available on barebones P&S DVD. I might be the only one here who actually enjoyed "The Paper", always been a guilty pleasure, as it contains one of Michael Keaton's best preformances IMO. Plus you get the beautuful Marissa Tomei as well.
also RIP, Jason Robards Jr, Lynne Thigpen, William Prince, Augusta Dabney, and Spalding Gray.

Very good film, I will pick it up, at least the review gave the video and audio high marks. Always get a laugh during the scene where Russell and Baldwin are talking on Russell's boat and the camera angle shows nothing in the water, the very next scene a tug boat and barge are floating by.

Default which version will be on Blu?

I vaguely remember this movie and haven't seen it in at least 15 years. But I do remember seeing an extended version on TV in the late 90s, which included scenes not in the theatrical version. Does anyone know which version this will be?

The Paper was fantastic Kinda a guilty pleasure I guess; Sort of like Gung Ho and The Dream Team lol man I havent seen these movies in forever.

Unfortunately for Backdraft if this is indeed just the theatrical version and not the extended cut I will be passing on this release until the extended is released as it really does tie up all the loose ends as well as showing what the firefighters do for there community outside of working.
