Independent distributors Blue Underground have revealed that they will release on Blu-ray Giulio Berruti's Suor Omicidi a.k.a Killer Nun (1979), starring Anita Ekberg (La Dolce Vita), Alida Valli (Senso), Paola Morra (Behind Convent Walls), Lou Castel (Fists in the Pocket), and Joe Dallesandro (Je Taime Moi Non Plus). Street date is April 24th.

Legendary Swedish sex bomb Anita Ekberg stars as Sister Gertrude, a cruel nun who discovers depraved pleasure in a frenzy of drug addiction, sexual degradation and sadistic murder. For you guys that haven't seen this, don't get your hopes up too high. I've got the DVD, and this is one of the worst on BU's roster. It's not nearly sleazy or violent enough to really recommend it, and mostly it's just boring.

BUs choice of HD upgrade has been peculiar as of late. Did these titles sell so well on DVD that they warranted a BD release before films such as Suspiria, or did they lose the license for that?

There was a rumor going around that the US rights to SUSPIRIA belonged to the Weinsteins - possibly in connection to the proposed remake. But I don't know whether there's any truth to that.

I'll probably buy this because I liked the movie, but I have to wonder why they are putting out weird movies like this and not Don't Torture a Duckling, which is badly in need of an upgrade to HD. Did these obscure titles really sell better than a Fulci film??

I asked the same thing. I can only assume it is a license thing. Plus, we've gotten Zombie, City of the Living Dead and NY Ripper already, so its not as if Fulci gets shafted.

That's true, but I consider Duckling to be Fulci's best film and it would be nice to have it on Blu-ray. Lustig stated in an interview a couple years ago that they probably wouldn't re-release the film because of low sales, but I have to wonder if they'd reconsider since they are putting out movies like Killer Nun and Baba Yaga again. Not that those movies are bad, I quite like them, but you'd think a Fulci film – even a somewhat lesser known one like Duckling – would have more of a following.

I have this on DVD and I remember being pretty disappointed. It really wasn't very good, although I'd like to give it another chance.
