Default The Dark Knight Rises (2012), is it aging well?

In the Nolan Batman Trilogy, The Dark Knight (2008) and Batman Begins (2005) appear to have a relatively more following. The Dark Knight Rises (2012) usually comes in third.

Recently, I revisited the three films and appear to have enjoyed TDKR the most. Is the film aging relatively better? Potential reasons could be:
  • The transfer is better than the other two films
  • Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are now 17 and 15 years old respectively
  • Joker (2019) may have taken away the novelty factor of the Joker in The Dark Knight (still a powerful portrayal but now we have an equally good/interesting version in the 2019 film)
  • The Dark Knight Rises combines some of the best elements from both films - the League of Shadows is back
  • Bain's takeover of Gotham is relatively unique as you do not get to see such concepts in many films
  • Other interesting concepts include Batsman's escape from the pit
  • Miranda and Selina work better (at least for me) than Rachael
  • The film ties up the ends

It wasn't good then, so no. It's aging like milk.

It's aging fine. I think it's maybe not quite as good as Dark Knight (but not too far off either). Better than Begins. Pretty sure that's how I've always felt about it.

I will say I like Christian Bale much better as Bruce Wayne in this movie. Or maybe it's just how he's written. He's more troubled/obsessive in this one, which is how I tend to prefer Batman.

Same now as it was when the trilogy was completed: 2nd behind Batman Begins.

Watched TDKR for the 2nd time this week. Besides the points mentioned in the OP, the action sequences, along with its associated drama & setting in the “occupied” Gotham, + the score give this film an edge.

Now I rate this film among the best action films of 21st century, along with likes of Casino Royale, Mad Max Fury Road, etc. (for overall experience of action, setting/location, drama during/related to action sequences, score during action sequences, etc.)

In the past, this gem remained in the shadows of TDK (elevated by Joker’s performance) but not anymore! TDKR is probably the best “Batman” (not Joker) film of the trilogy.

Still number 3. That said I really like it. It’s just not as good as the first two.

The trilogy is diminishing returns overall, it doesn't quite deliver on the excellence of Batman Begins.

TDKR is always a "good' movie. although drawn out as a conclusion.

When previous 2 movies of trilogy reach cinematic perfection, you are asking too much of the 3rd one. TDKR never really stood a chance.

unlike SPIDERMAN, you knew SPIDERMAN 2 was gonna reach pertection as it will build on the original.

I wonder if real CIA officers are stupid enough to put terrorists on a plane before removing their hoods to see who they are? I hated the Dark Knight and I knew as soon as this scene started that I was going to hate The Dark Knight Rises even more. It only gets dumber with each scene.

Those are cinematic conveniences (Why would Bane even need to be there to get such “information”?). The big picture here is the action sequence where you enjoy how Bane escapes from the plane on IMAX with Hans Zimmer's score in the background!

The discussion is mainly for those who like the 3 films and how they rate the 3rd one relatively based on their recent watch. You said that you do not like TDK too, so that is at least 2 out of 3 films that you don’t like.

So far, it is good to see a lot of ppl put TDKR at either #1 or #2 … Like its name, its popularity is on the rise (expecting it to age relatively better esp. as the best action film of the series)!

It's the worst one. I have seen it a couple of times and it only gets worse with every viewing.
