Default Disney's Live-Action Pinocchio

Quote:
Disney has once more donned its Indiana Jones fedora and raided the archives for yet another film the studio once brought to life via animation to turn into a live-action adventure. Today’s discovery pulled into the light? Pinocchio.

The Mouse House has The Odd Life Of Timothy Green writer/director Peter Hedges aboard to craft a script that will once more follow the wooden boy as he wishes to become a real child, sees that come true and then has adventures. All the while being unable to tell a lie lest his nose grow.

It’s very early days for the new film, which like the 1940 original will be drawn from Carlo Collodi’s 1883 novel The Adventures Of Pinocchio. It joins fellow Disney conversion jobs already in the works including Dumbo, The Jungle Book, Beauty And The Beast, Winnie The Pooh and Mulan.

This one, though, faces competition from Guillermo del Toro, who has been attempting to bring a darker take on the story to life for a few years, looking to work on the film with Gris Grimly and Matthew Robbins. That one is still in development, but has a completed script and GDT has commissioned imagery for it.

Finally! After Cinderella, I wish Kenneth Brannagh would direct Beauty and the Beast or Pinocchio. They're my favorites.

That other live action Pinocchio that never happened was going to have Robert Downey Jr. as Geppetto. I wonder if Disney would be interested in having RDJr. in the role, considering his relationship with the company (Disney's Marvel films).

Um...do I need to point out the obvious boo-boo?

I think I'd be less annoyed by these live action projects if Disney wasn't announcing them on a seemingly weekly basis.

I thought this was already coming out with RDJ as Gepetto on May 1st? James Spader was doing the voice of Pinocchio. Isn't that right?

I'm more interested in the one being done by RDJ. Sounds more intriguing to me.

there is NO WAY that's not deliberate. I refuse to believe that a writer could write that AND an editor could read it without catching something so obvious

I would wager that they sat down and planned them all out at one time. The idea was probably along the lines of "let's refresh every animated movie," and they went about plotting it all out.

Their folly was in announcing them separately rather than making their intention clear and saying, at one time, "we are going to make live action movies of all of your favorite classics." Then they could have clearly articulated the reasoning behind it.

Instead they're just dribbling them out over time, and it don't look as coherent, and they have to keep explaining the rationale each time.

Enough with remaking their animated classics for a new audience. Let's see a Bonkers movie.
