United Kingdom The Shiver of the Vampires 4K UHD (Indicator)

The Shiver Of The Vampires 4K UHD (Indicator Series) Powerhouse Films (1971)

Release Date : 24th April 2023

https://www.powerhousefilms.co.uk/co...ires-4k-uhd-le

(Jean Rollin, 1971)
Release date: 24 April 2023
Limited Edition 4K UHD (World premiere)

Jean Rollin’s third feature film, 1971’s The Shiver of the Vampires (Le Frisson des vampires), established themes and visual motifs to which he would return throughout his career, blending horror, eroticism, fairy tale, and surrealism to create his unique cinema of the fantastique.

Arriving at a decrepit chateau for their honeymoon, young newlyweds undergo a series of surreal and sinister encounters, and come to realise that they are the prey of the resident vampires...

With performances from Sandra Julien (I Am Frigid... Why?) and Marie-Pierre Castel (Lips of Blood), ravishing cinematography from Rollin’s regular collaborator Jean-Jacques Renon, and a thrilling jazz-rock score by Acanthus, The Shiver of the Vampires is regarded as one of Rollin’s greatest films.

One of my favorites from Rollin. I wonder if FiM is doing Indicator’s UHDs?

Jean Rollin in 4K? Never thought I’d see it. A few weeks ago I bought up as many of the Redemption discs as I could because I noticed they were becoming scarce. My Amazon order for this one got cancelled. Glad I didn’t overpay for a secondhand disc. Hopefully Fascination, Iron Rose and some of his other vampire films get an upgrade too.

Hmm, I adore Rollin but I have to say I’m a bit disappointed they’re not releasing a box set instead of a trickle of individual releases, especially since neither this nor Two Orphan Vampires are among my favorites of his work.

Wow never saw this coming. I'm in. I think we need to support this title, which is solid enough, and hopefully it continues on until we have even stronger Rollin titles like The Iron Rose, Fascination, Grapes of Death, Night of the Hunted, and The Living Dead Girl offered up on 4k uhd. An exciting, unexpected development for certain, with great possibilities on the horizon. I do wonder why we're getting a 4k scan of an internegative (color-timed copy of an IP, so a copy of a copy)....perhaps the OCN of this title is lost, or damaged beyond usefulness? I see that the 4k release of Two Orphan Vampires 4k appears to be using the OCN for that title.

Haven't jumped on a new release this quick in some time. Never expected to EVER see any Jean Rollin in UHD. Hopefully this bodes well for eventual release of the rest of his movies, too. At the very least I would kill for a 4K special edition of The Iron Rose.

Is the release date the same for the US release? I’m seeing 6/25/23 on Diabolik

Shit, didn't notice the US UHD was only limited to 2,000. That's super low. Immediately jumped on the Diabolik preorder for both titles as soon as I saw that.

The Redemption blurays of Rollin's films are pretty outdated and often hit with the DNR bat. I'll be upgrading to 4K on any Rollin film, Indicator puts out.

I wouldn't necessarily put a lot of stock in Diabolik's listing just yet. Their initial preorder release dates are often inaccurate (or just placeholders until the actual date is announced).

Ya I actually heard from somewhere late last year that we were getting a Rollin set but didn't know who from. I hope to God they don't trickle these out then somebody else puts out a whole set, I'm gonna be fuming! That said I preordered the crud out of both of these from Diabolik as soon as they posted!

Can't wait to see what the 4K transfers will look like.

I've seen the Shivers and Wicker Vision blu-rays and I've always thought they lack a film like look, usually not really any film grain - transfers seemed just okay.

Count me in for as many 4Ks as they release on Rollin titles.

I had to come back to this thread just to make sure I wasn't imagining this.

Jean Rollin, on 4k uhd.....Who would've believed that a few years back? Hell, we still can't get dozens of massive blockbuster box-office smash hits like The Fugitive on 4k from the major studios, and Rollin is getting TWO of his lesser films on 4k uhd right out of the gate. Truly it is an awesome time to be a film/media collector. Both of these should look miles better than the prior blu rays, which were already a treat.

I saw the caps of Shiver and you could see the edges of the frame and warping and it looks like they didn't care to fix it. I prefer the Redemption even if it looks like the Wicked Vision may have more detail.

I am hoping for a Grapes of Death upgrade as there's a one frame video glitch I would like to see corrected on that one. Unless my disc had a bad pressing. A medium sized white box or window pops up on screen.

Three Jean Rollin titles on UHD now including the previous Le Chat qui Fume release of BACCHANALES SEXUELLES.

Awesome news for Rollin fans! I hope we get "Lips of Blood" and "Fascination" on 4k UHD next. I would love for some company to release some of his hardcore films which he directed under the name Michel Gentil on 4k UHD if possible.

There is one I would like to see but other than that, I am not so sure. Supposedly they don't really have his style and are just porns shot for cash.
