Default Paramount Delaying Star Trek Season 2 - A forshadowing?

If I recall correctly, Star Trek Season one was set to debut on both Blu-ray and HD DVD last year, then it was suddenly bumped to "sometime in the fall 2007", then shortly thereafter the Red bomb was dropped.

I just read on High def Digest that season 2 for HD DVD has been delayed from March to "Sometime in the summer of 2008."

I just find it kind of interesting. I wonder if it means anything?

Season 1 didn't sell worth a crap on HD DVD. I'll be really surprised if Season 2 ever sees the light of day on HD DVD.

This news is also being discussed over on the Paramount thread currently, but a suprise, yes and no on the annoucement. Yes, there has been talk that the blu ray version was almost ready if not ready to go on season one, then they pulled the plug on us. Now the talk about season two being delayed "Until Sometime This Summer", very interesting indeed.

Everyone poo-pooed a recent delay. I think everyone had better hold their poo now.

The HD DVD release schedule is bare. No one can buy an HD DVD player in the hopes of playing new titles on it. Upconversion/clearance item.

I am not going to look to far into it, but this is still very interesting. Any moves that Universal and Paramount make right now will be looked at very closely under a microscope.

Actually, a few months ago, someone on this list broke the news from some media source. At the time it was speculated that it was because of poor sales of Season 1 (too pricey, for one thing, and who wants SD and Hi Def copies anyway?). However, the fact that this news has resurfaced at this time might mean that there's further significance to it, beyond just a delay because it's a delay or that the first season didn't sell well last fall.

Whatever Paramount's motivations, it was not so they could release Blu alongside it. There were many other factors involved.

I assure you.

I fully expect them to learn their lesson and stop releasing the first season on Combo discs, and start releasing it on DVD separately. I hope this does mean that they will start making them both for Blu-ray too.

I wouldn't be surprised if Season 2 never sees the light of day on HD-DVD.

"Sometime in Summer" isn't good when most retailers wont be carrying that format by then. And we might know why by friday.

Does anyone actually know just how many copies of Star Trek Paramount sold? I read a press release from them not long ago which touted the first season had sold very well. I also heard elsewhere that it didn't! Do we have any hard, verifiable data on sales...?

Amazon has Season 1 of Star Trek on HD DVD for under $98. Paramount must be so proud. That is 50% off.

I doubt we will ever see Star Trek season 2 on HD DVD. Toshiba had apparently paid Paramount off to exclusively release Star Trek as a HD DVD combo. That had originally been planned to be the only HD DVD exclusive when Paramount was neutral. I think I remember seeing numbers like season 1 had sold something like 7800 copies, but it might have been even less than that.

I hope they are going to put ST on Blu, but when they do I want a better package than the car wreck of a box they put it in in the car wreck of a format HD-DVD

I'm glad it isn't on Blu, because I'd be tempted as a Star trek fan...but I hate that Paramount gouges the fans on prices for stuff like this.

I'd expect that when TOS hits Blu the price will be much better

If nothing else they delayed it to pimp the movie
