Default Luis Estrada's "¡Que Viva Mexico!" w/Ana de la Reguera | Netflix

Luis Estrada has always been a pretty audacious filmmaker, but getting into a deal with Netflix has seemingly made him even more audacious. His new film, out now, is a sprawling 3-hour epic about... a Mexican family dealing with the complications that arise due to an unexpected inheritance.

If you've seen her in Army of the Dead or The Forever Purge, then you already know how good an actress Ana de la Reguera is, and here she does not disappoint. Along with her, the cast is full of familiar faces from Estrada's filmography, including most prominently Damián Alcázar and Joaquín Cosío.

Estrada's epic, which sadly did not get much of a release in the US, can perhaps be appreciated equally well on the small screen. There is much to savour here, and perhaps one or two touches that are right out of a Bunuel classic. As a filmmaker, Estrada rarely disappoints. And working as director and producer, he seems to still be going full steam ahead.
