Default Pi (1998) - A24 Hosting the 25th Anniversary on Pi Day

A24 Acquires Darren Aronofsky’s First Film ‘Pi,’ Sets Imax Re-Release on Pi Day (EXCLUSIVE)

trailer

So it looks like Aronofsky's debut film Pi is getting a remaster and playing fairly soon. He's worked with A24 before so this is cool.

I question the logic of doing an "8K with Atmos" (as the trailer claims) remaster of a no-budget black and white movie shot on 16mm. Seems a little overkill.

I don't want to get my hopes up, but something tells me a 4K disc is coming. Why do all of that work, "8K" restoration, Atmos mix, for a super limited one day only screening.

Agreed. To post this all over socials just for a one day thing that's happening in 13 days seems super silly. Probably a physical release on the horizon from Lionsgate.

I emailed a24 begging for it, but I guess we'll see what comes. I honestly haven't watched it in a while and am due for a rewatch. At least wide release the screenings if you don't plan on a physical release, you know?

Hmm, I haven't seen this since it first came out on DVD back in the old days. The clerk at Blockbuster recommended it to me. I remember liking it.

I remember that I told one of my buddies to watch this. This was back when we started becoming friends and I recommended it to him. From then on he's trusted my recommendations.

Haven't seen it in like over a decade. Hoping to retire the DVD for a blu and (current) completion of my Aronofsky collection.

A 4K UHD is all I want; hell, even a Blu-ray would do (yes, yes, I'm aware there's an older one available in the UK).

The only Aronofsky I don't own, and haven't revisted was Noah. I'm sure I'll watch it again someday, but it left a sour taste in my mouth. The only of his films I didn't really care much for.

No one's mentioning the irony that Nolan's Following can't have the "First 16mm Movie On IMAX" claim.

I considered this my least favorite movie of all time for quite awhile.

I don't remember it enough now to really know if some others (like maybe The Witch) took over that spot.

I do remember this being painful (literally) to watch though.

Super ugly movie. I suppose that's the point. Enjoy it in IMAX though.

The Atmos remix is obviously something extra, but there's nothing to question about an 8K scan of a movie, even if it were shot on 8mm.

High resolution scans are not about the "bling," or making this look like a high-end big budget blockbuster movie from last week. For the conservation of filmed material, the more there are of these, the better.

Crazy….saw this during its initial theater run and maybe just once since. Really liked it at the time, but definitely never expected an IMAX release…tempting!

I found it one of the most unintentionally hilarious movies I've ever seen. I laughed my head off through the whole thing.
