Sorry if this has been mentioned, already, but couldn't find anything. And after a loooooong history around here I realized I'd never started a thread before, so let that be my cred.
On a whim, I recorded this off of Turner Classic Movies this morning, figuring it would be the same crappy PD transfer I'd seen there before. It wasn't. It's a restored edition. I've never seen this movie look this good. It wasn't the second coming, but something has definitely been done to it. I know Steve Hoffman, the mastering engineer, has mentioned on his site that Warners had a mint interpositive he didn't think they'd release since it could get snapped up and released by cheap public domain outlets. I don't know all the legality of that, but am guessing TCM got it from them. Thought I'd mention for anybody who loves this movie that they're running it again at 3:30 am. And if it was from WB, could that mean Criterion could potentially get access to it at some point? Discuss. |
