Avatar The Way of Water 3D Blu-ray (2022) [Region Free]

Avatar: The Way of Water was released on 3D Blu-ray in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Netherlands and Japan. Release dates are as follows:

20 June - USA & Canada
23 June - France & Netherlands
26 June - UK
28 June - Australia
30 June - Japan (regular)
6 July - German
12 July - Czech Republic (SteelBook import)
23 August - Japan (SteelBook)

All discs worldwide are REGION FREE.

There are some retailer-exclusive SteelBooks e.g. from HMV in the UK and Amazon in Germany and Japan. The US SteelBook is 4K only. Japan alone gets the 4K+3D combo pack. None of the discs feature HFR or the variable frame rate as seen in cinemas.

Please note that the standard US release and all the SteelBook editions stack the discs in pairs instead of safely holding each one separately.

When shooting starts i'm sure there will be talk about how it is being shoot (what 3d rig etc). If HFR will be used and the effect it will have etc.

I doubt we will see 4k. But I wouldn't be complaining if we did. HFR though, that excites me, I have disliked the 'forceful' holding onto 24fps for a long time. It was made for budgetary reasons almost a century ago, it is time to move on.

If the release date is December 2017, I believe he'll accomplish the goal this time and Avatar 2 will hit theaters in time, if they got most of the CGI prepared for filming. Can't wait to see his new vision of 3D, as he suggested he played it a little safe in Avatar.

So this will take place on different planets? If Weaver returns, I'm guessing the story will continue with the Na'vi and Sam Worthington also to some degree?
Maybe they'll form a resistance group to defend other planets, not sure yet but looking forward to it.

No idea what the story will be, and I don't think there's been any news on the cast. Last I heard though, there are going to be oodles of new things in Pandora to see, including the deep oceans (which, coming from Cameron, sounds awesome to me).

Good to know the design work is pretty much done and he is just fine tuning the scrips now. I'm still really skeptical he will make the dates. Disney has already moved Star Wars running scared from Avatar 2's December date so he better make time... because I'm sick of f'n waiting!

As one of the biggest 3D fans and Avatar fans on the planet, I'm beyond sick of waiting for the sequels to come out lol. Cameron's a genius and my filmmaking idol, but he's really trying my patience with his delays on the films lol. i just want him to blow my mind already like he did in '09 lol!

I think more likely than not Cameron will push for 4k-3D. It's the big opportunity to move the medium forward.

In an age where people can shoot 2k on phones, it's time to move on. Chances are most screenings will still be 2k 3D, but I'm sure there'll be some screens capable of 4k 3D by then. With the amount of effort that goes into these, Cameron will want them future-proofed.

It will be interesting if Cameron finally solves the "non-cinematic" look with 48fps, for an immersive experience. Hate being pulled out of movie where things look artificial. Sets, makeup, wigs etc. Undeniable “reality”.

IMO, 48fps should be used selectively. For fast action scenes, I'm fine with it. During conversations or closeups, it just looks like a TV soap opera.

I thought I remember Cameron saying something about variable frame rate for the sequels, in the way that you mentioned. I don't know -- I feel that would be jarring.

EDIT: But I'd be willing to give it a try. I liked the Hobbits in 48fps, but you and Paul H are right: the conversation scenes seemed weird and the set pieces do indeed look fake.

That is one of the best 3D shots in the movie, agreed. Hopefully most of Avatar 2, 3 and 4 will include strong 3D like that. So much more fun to watch in strong 3D like that, than a flat image.

Chances are, Cameron can meet the 2017 Avatar 2 3D deadline with his great amount of resources and crew helping put the film together. If all of the major pre-production is complete, they're in very good shape once they get the principle photography of the actors scenes completed in hopefully a few months or so.

I can see this hitting the 2017 deadline, but going up against Star Wars VIII, maybe they'll aim for November instead of Christmas December. That would be the only reason to switch the deadline unless things go very wrong on the set, which is unlikely. But that's just one opinion.

Definitely looking forward to Avatar 2. I hope the underwater scenes are clear, with a nice distance to see into the depths like near the shores of tropical zones, instead of foggy like in the deep ocean.
