This sort of thing happened with my ps3 once i had to turn the power off of everything the vt and the ps3 then connect all the hdmi cable then turn on the the ps3 first then the tv after and it connected right up, it seemed very strange to me. but that might help you or maybe not.

At this point I will try anything. Its the only thing holding me up. If I hook it up through component it works fine or if I run the Hdmi from the cable box to the tv it works so it not the box

I have almost the exact same problem. When connecting my cable box through HDMI, I get a picture for about 2 seconds, then it cuts out. Usually, the screen just goes black, but occassionally I see a "fail to authenticate" message.
I've done some searching for solutions, and one common opinion I've found is that the firmware for the cable box is out of date. "They" (whoever that is) says that Comcast does a fairly poor job of keeping these up to date. Unfortunately, it's not something you can update on your own (I don't think). Comcast sends these firmware updates automatically through the cable whenever they see fit. I've tried the power on / power off trick, but didn't have any luck with that. I decided not to lose any more sleep over it, so I just decided to stick with component. I believe cable networks only send a max of 720p or 1080i anyhow, without any HD audio, so I shouldn't be losing any resolution or sound quality by using component and optical audio cables. It would be nice for the clutter factor to be able to use only one cable though. I hope I'm wrong about this, so I'll be keeping my eye on this thread to see if anyone offers any solutions I can try. If my theory is right, we may just have to wait until our cable providers offer up the latest firmware. Edit - I just re-read your lastest post, and you say that it works fine when you connect directly to the TV. This isn't the case for me, so maybe your problem is different. Did you try both HDMI inputs on your Onkyo? Maybe one of them is bad. Last edited by Larsco; 02-09-2008 at 02:11 PM. Reason: Update |
