Default Shame (1988) - Sunburnt Screens - 1st December 2021 - Umbrella Entertainment

Asta Cadell, a lawyer traveling through the Australian Outback on holiday, stops in a small Western Australian town after her motorcycle breaks down and shacks up with Tim Curtis, the local mechanic, while fixing it. She then becomes involved in helping Curtis' teenage daughter, Lizzie, who has been recently date-raped by Danny Fiske, the son of a wealthy, well-known citizen and his gang. Asta persuades Lizzie to press charges against Danny, but the local population becomes determined to keep the incident a secret at any cost and soon Asta and the Curtis family's lives are in danger.

Amazing announcement!
One of the great Australian movies of the 80's in my opinion.

I'll second that.

For lovers of great Australian cinema who have not seen this I do not hesitate in recommending a blind buy.

Deborah Lee-Furness is phenomenal in it.

Definitely interested in revisiting this. When I was in high school (Year 9, IIRC), my English teacher set this for us to study. I was very anti-feminist back then, and interpreted the film (and my teacher's inclusion of it in the syllabus) as a broadbrush attack on men. I even wrote an essay saying as much, which my teacher gave brutal feedback on.

I'm forty now, and I physically cringe when I think about my attitudes back then. Given the grim subject matter, I wouldn't say that I'm looking forward to revisiting Shame with adult eyes, but I do plan on getting this Blu and checking it out in due course.

Amazing news!! Possibly my favourite Australian film, and a Blu ray release is long overdue.

I’d love to see this film as I’m only familiar with the US made for TV version starring Amanda Donahoe, Dean Stockwell and Fairuza Balk, which I think is quite good for a TV movie.

I wasn't familiar with this title until it's release today from VS Partner Labels. After seeing a few reviews I decided to order a copy.
