Nowhere & Everywhere
Default Alan Rickman vs Jeremy Irons

Two british actors from same generation, with iconic, powerful deep voice.

My question is:
Who is better actor? Rickman(RIP) or Irons?

Vote and Discuss here.

Brilliant thread, haha.

It's a tough one. Both great actors, classically trained, but I'd have to give the edge to Irons.

they're both outstanding actors... no question.

I voted for Rickman because I have enjoyed more of his performances...Die Hard, Robin Hood, Harry Potter...so many memorable roles he had...

Pose this question to Mama Gruber, it'd be like choosing between her own kids. Oh wait...

In a fist fight? Probably Irons. I feel like he'd be a tough one to take down.

In this thread... probably also Irons. Though I also feel that maybe Rickman was in better movies.

Poor John McClane had to beat both insane brothers and pretty much do all the work by himself too.

I love a lot of Jeremy Irons Work and films he’s in, but having seen Rickman talking in person, I can tell you Rickman was a true gentleman both on and off screen.

I feel Alan Rickman plays more diverse roles. Also I tend to enjoys his movies more. I can name more of his movies than Iron's.

Rickman had more iconic/recognizable roles and is an excellent actor, but Irons is better.

Rickman. Nothing against Irons but Rickman has had more iconic roles and I generally prefer him as an actor.

Alan Rickman. I feel that in his film roles he had a much better range. Both these guys could play villains well but when Rickman played a good guy, he was able to project a genuine warmth about him that I've never seen from Irons. Irons excels at the cold-hearted aristocrats like Claus Von Bulow in Reversal of Fortune but I even found him a bit miscast in DH3.

Tough one. Personally, I always found Rickman more fun to watch (and he was definitely the better Die Hard villain).

Still, I'll always love Irons for his Dead Ringers performance(s) alone...

Rickman's Hans Gruber is probably my third favorite villain performance behind Hopkins' Lector and Nicholson's Joker. Plus he WAS Snape. Bonus: he made Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves less shitty. Rickman for the win.

Rickman is great, Irons may be nutty, but his role in Die Hard 3 and the Lion King was unforgettable.
